Rules for defensive gameplan - Questions

By Rumplebeanskin

I want to use a set of rules to govern how my team plays on defence, but have a few questions based on the way I'm currently working through it. If anyone can help, that would be appreciated.

1) Where does 4-6 sit in terms of formations? I can pick goal-line, normal defence, nickel, dime and quarter when creating a rule. Where does a 4-6 sit within that? And if I wanted to use those plays specifically, how would I do so without also having to pick plays from the formations listed?

2) The run/pass slider inside the rule creator, how does that work? I don't see anything on a play in my play book that specifies if a play is run or pass, what do these 3 sliders correlate to? Is it just the mindset of my defenders to go towards the LOS or away from it?

3) If on a play, my defence has an assignment for WRs 1-5 to be covered, perhaps by 2 CBs and all 3LBs, or 3CBs and both safeties. What happens if I'm in that formation and the opposition comes out with just 2 receivers, or 3 receivers? Is there a default that the defenders assigned to WR4 and WR5 will do as they have no-one to cover?

Thanks!!

46 is a 4-3 formation where the strong safety is essentially playing linebacker. The run/pass/neutral slider determines the frequency at which your defense will play specifically against the run, the pass, or neither (neutral). Most plays work for both pass and run but some are inherently better than others given the situation (e.g. prevent D is always for pass protection). For your final question, there are always five eligible receivers on the offense. If you look at your plays individually, you can see the player assignments. The computer will call a 4-3 against a 2WR set, for instance, and when the individual assignments have LBs and safeties manning against WR3-WR5, this really means that these positions are lining up against running backs and TEs. Basically, if your opponent calls 3, 4, 5 or however many WRs on the field, the computer will match it up with an equal number of CBs.

Any way of knowing which of the WRs 3-5 would be RB/FB/TE?

Thanks for the rest of the info. I'm aware of how the 4-6 works, just not really where it would fit into the rules. Not sure if I'll use it or not

For rules, the 46 will show up as a normal defensive formation, usually with increased blitz packages. I also wish we knew which 'receiver' the linebackers and safeties manned just by looking at individual assignments. I suppose you could watch whatever play is in question in the game viewer, but knowing ahead of time would be nice. Perhaps in a future update.

Just want to point out that the 46 is not numerated 4-6 like the other defense personnel sets. 46 was the number of the SS in the 85 Bears defense who the personnel set was created around. That is, if I remember that correctly, I haven't watched the 30-30 on the 85 Bears on Netflix yet.
