The easiest way I find to do it is to overspend for your Head Coach / OC / DC and then sign dirt cheap and young developmental position coaches.

Heres what I do .. simple breakdown

HC 10,000,000
OC/DC 9,999,999
PCs 200,000

Early FA1 I reup the HC and OC/DC by a dollar and get them under new contracts so they cant be poached (unless someone overbids me)

PCs I really don't care if they are poached .. ill find another cheap one.
==============================================================

FWIW, My only suggestion on coaching contracts would be multiple offers to coaches and be able to rank them in order I'd want them.

I re-up all of my coaches during FA1 to avoid any poaching simply because hiring a new coach can be so annoying.

If you are unable to get a coach signed by a game, the AI will select the best coach for you - the only one that you really want to make sure you get is the head coach, the others are useful in terms of what attributes they improve the players on your team, so the AI will always get the best coach it can based on those attributes.

I'm open to suggestions on how to make it better, I know folks have mentioned queuing up coach contracts (so you can offer more than one and prioritize it) which may help solve it.

Ok, here's my suggestion, if its only really HCs, OCs and DCs that matter, how about we sign ONLY these positions and let the HC sign PCs using the same formula we have in the draft where we can add weights for different positions.
I for one just hate the whole coaching hiring and firing debacle and is an unnecessary debacle.

I agree if these coaches are meaningless, but singing coaches has always been a big part in the game!

Yes, but spending the entire off season to hire a position coach without massively overpaying can be quite annoying.

IRL coaches have followings where they can learn the nuances of schemes till they feel there is better than the teacher. Here position coaches have complete different schemes. That is the main problem. Really one thing matters. Ratings, higher the better.

Its not real at all. Coaches cant just fly around and work with who ever at the drop of a dime. Tons of trust and cohesion goes on. A master will only show his tricks to a worthy apprentice. One he knows will stick with him for a bit. Through the good and the bad.

How about have them become more familar with the plays they run. Even as a position coach they may be getting familar with a different schemes plays but his experience with the plays he knows is what should boost players skill in games.

It would be alot harder to decide who was a good fit for your team. And keeping guys together would have more of a benefit than simply who is the best at teaching man to man. Or who has the highest rating.

Besides the plays they run the only difference is who can develop players. To me those are motivators or coaches who are good at developing players.

This would add another kind of coach. One who has experience and knows his ****. The more times this guy runs a particular play the better he is at teaching to his players and coincidentaly they execute better in a game. Still use the splits the same. The head coaches play familarity matters most and so on like the in game boost based off there ratings.

A coach who has both is the one who i will poach. He has to have a clear advantage in both development and play knowledge or just my team. But fitting a scheme should be more important than the ability to develope.

Getting a clear advantage can only happen when he has a staff that he has taught to think like him. Or in the rarer case he fits well somewhere else because that guy learned the same scheme under another coach from that same coaching tree.

The key here is the more same plays your coaching staff has together the higher the in game boost should be. So powerful of a boost the desire for a coach with high developmental skills is lost. Or at least balance the level so one is not desired more than the other.

Its like Belicheck. No body really likes him but i think he has a clear advantage for my team cause my player fit his scheme. I will pay millions for his mastery of the game and his ability to teach exectuion. But he is great at developing players too! That is why he is in the disscussion at the best right now. Is he the highest paid? I dont even know, but boy does he know his plays and i would pay.

Or even when you hire a HC he submits suggestions on hiring the rest of the staff, quite often when a new HC is appointed he would do exactly this, wages would just be a standard rate which would mean we wouldn't have to mess around with the annoying coach cap
