OT: Max Speed vs Accel

By WarEagle

I keep forgetting which attribute is now the most important skill for an OT.

Is it Max Speed or Acceleration?

I know that it Accel is the obvious answer and it makes no sense why Max Speed would be important for an OL, but I think I remember reading that THIS is actually the attribute that is most important due to the new changes.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks

SP - That's what allows the OL to get into position to make the block.

Thanks.

It still seems logical that acceleration should be more important than max speed for OL.

I just need to stop thinking about things in terms of what is logical.

I don't even weight Acceleration right now. I haven't see much of a difference between my 100 AC / 100 SP players and my 10 AC / 100 SP players.

Logical or not I would never pick the 10 acceleration 100 speed guy over the counter part unless he pulled.

Logical is also an opinion cause what are these guys 40 times and better yet tell me the speed calculation that proves your theory. Getting in position for what?

Or we could wait for the generic test to come out to prove something that will get changed if the creator thinks it off anyway.

Cause to me a 300 pound player with 100 speed and 100 acceleration will run a sub 5 fourty.

Our linemen are running seven or eight second 40 yard dashes. Still, none of that is truly needed to move 3 yards in to position to pass block. That change killed outside runs and blew up punt returns and increased the sideline sack.

The fast defenders just run down a dumb QB Who rarely throws it under 3 seconds if not familiar or experienced.

Yes it hurt pressure some but the game always lacked a consistent out let to dealing with passing pressure. Just with all the tightening up of worse areas has highlighted this go deep or go home passing. Dimishing short passing and pointing at what happens with the wr/dB interactions.

How do they get open? What are the main drivers on short routes? Fade routes? I know jumping don't matter. How about if there is a press Or deep look? All of this sounds logical right?

I am not questioning the lack of linemen speed effectiveness or it's logic. I asked for the switch back for awhile for many reasons.

But why does my top CBS get caught over so often? I really have no idea? The QB throws it in double and triple coverage only for a catch over? This is the most irrational part of the game. Along with the lack of an agility rating. Both rating would help define alot.

I have four 90 rated recivers. I do not see how a team could match up. It seems simple. Too simple IMO. Perhaps as simple as running the ball, but when we play in one I will be passing alot out of spread sets. We will see.

News to me! I had been led to believe (maybe the Help section?), that Acc is needed for OL and spd is needed over greater distances! ???

Track down the Underweight DE thread. It's buried in that thread somewhere.

Welcome to bizarro world, where up is down and the OL needs to run far distances at high speed instead of being able to move quick.

Acceleration and speed together are just used as a metric when the DE is doing a speed rush. Actually right now one is not weighed any higher than the other, although it does make more sense that the acceleration is more important than speed in this case.
