Pass interference

Ok, so I am not going to complain about all the PI calls, but was wondering what contributes to them. I know that discipline ratings probably factor into them the most, but was wondering if lack of speed or coverage skills causes player to compensate by committing pass interference penalties. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Both factors come into play. A player that is beat has a probability to commit PI based on their discipline.

Is that only if the player is "beat"? or just in general. I ask because it would seem that a CB with subpar/average coverage skills, speed/acc etc, would benefit from having really low Discipline. If he isn't beat he would make the play.. if he does get beat he has in increased chance to stop the big play by committing the PI?

In FoF, there was a time when Intelligence affected a QB's decision on who to throw to, field of vision in a sense. GM's would use QB's with extremely low INT in order to more accurately control who the QB was throwing to as it was almost always the primary read and never an option route due to low INT, the QB would never look for who was open and just throw to your superstar receiver on nearly every play etc.

I have never tested your senerio , but one could look back and see the targets /snaps/penalties and the penalty yards and get some sort of idea , but the effects are there but minimal when compared to random numbers .

A PI is after the throw and a hold is before . DBs are holding a lot and not getting call for it as well. With all the other RL defensive pass coverage penalties our numbers are a bit lower in comparison , but cause we only have 2 designations our numbers for those categories are in line or a bit high.

I tested a fast talented wr with low bump to see if he draw more penalties. I never targeted match ups but it works to some extent . What your saying seems plausible , but on the other end of the spectrum .

4.6 has holds way down and PIs up in comparison . So qbs are targeting guys while penalties are being called . Not like 4.5 ...the holds seemed more prevalent in that release opening up doors for more holding penalty opportunities.

Not that this isn't relevant bump is nerfed somewhat in 4.6. In 4.5 For my tests I only looked at speed to draw the hold, route to draw the target, and low bump so he wouldn't get far from the defender .

Still, a slower realife player would benefit from your senerio , but that would make them intelligent not someone who is not disciplined. Kind of counter intuitive .

Under our logic I see a slow elite cover guys with low Discipline drawing more penalties, but it would be dependent on speed/bump/man more that dicipline . Unless he's lacking in any one area such as Speed, man, or bump. Only cause coverage would be tighter increasing chances of a call . Still, random I see lower disciplined players flagged a bit more often in general across all positions .

But getting a penalty in 4.5 can be the difference . It the slightly random timing that's more tough to work around . We're trying to control that here and irl it's the dbs decision and ours is a slightly modifiable with in skill ratings and discipline .

I gonna try to find the logic I used so anyone can pick it apart and try something on defense but it's buried somewhere in beta chat. Imo finding that is the hard part .
