I tried hiring a bunch of young coaches last year and as far as I can tell, none of them have really developed... How soon can I tell if a coach will develop into something useful?

i want to know too though if i had to guess their progression follows same path players do which takes forever it seems to see anything for players.

I'd like to know also, I'm sure player development has a lot to do with the position as an RB or WR will max out the first season most of the time. I didn't pay much attention to coaches until a few seasons ago.

A few seasons ago the effect was less or absent. Still, I am not sure how much it affected the coaches influence .

I think some guys randomly actualize quicker or slower now. Sometimes making them instant starters or developmental players . ..no matter the overall score or coach.

I still haven't really been able to figure out how this works.

Two seasons ago, I hired this young OL-guy, https://ags.myfootballnow.com/coach/528. 78 rated, 30 years old. Match made in heaven!

Since then, he's went down, a bit up and then more down. Now being 32 years old, some solid experience under his belt, but worse.

This guy https://ags.myfootballnow.com/coach/627, from the same "batch" of young guys I tried, has developed well, on the other hand.

This guy https://ags.myfootballnow.com/coach/538, my DL guy, is now 33. Just hired him. The first 2 years in the league, he was unemployed, but improved. I guess you can just go through all the young coaches and see who improves. I guess it'll take a loooong time for some of them to be actually useful though.

So my guess is, that it's just a bunch of tiresome "grinding" through the lists, to find up-trending coaches.

Pretty much sums it up. When I need a new position coach, I look for young, up and coming coaches whose ratings are going up. If there are none, I then look for young rookie coaches. Yes it's a crapshoot but when you find one you'll be able to keep him for years until he starts getting Coordinator ratings in the high 70's. At that point, promote them or pay them in FA1 so they don't get poached.

From my experience, young coaches won't prevent your team from winning, it's all about the players/game planning.

Guess I'll just be doing more searching. I wish you could pay for them to take courses to improve their skill though. :)

Coach progression, as far as I've seen, is the same as player progression. It's either all boom or all bust. If a coach starts dropping after the first season, he's never going to improve. If he starts booming after the first season, he'll eventually be great.

I look for rookie coaches who have one really good rating. A RB coach with high ball carrying, for instance. Even if he's a 50 overall. After a year, you can tell if he's trending up or not. If he is, the rest of the ratings will fill in.

And if you haven't realized already, sign these guys to six-year deals at minimum salary to give yourself cash to go after the HC, OC and DC you want, or to extend an upward-trending guy.

I do something similar to IoT. But, then, once I have a solid cash flow, I start signing key assistants (QBs, DBs, WRs, RBs [in that order]) to mega 20+ million deals to keep them around.
