Offering contracts to players already on my roster

If I offer a contract with more bonus than the player asking for, will that allow me to adjust their base + bonus down? For example... if I offer 50% instead of 39% bonus, can I then drop the base + bonus from 1,500,000 to 1,000,000 with the chance the player will accept?

If they do reject my offer, will I always be able to make another offer, or is there a chance they stop listening to offers from me all together?

Thanks for any help.

yes, as long as you still meet whatever the bonus total was originally.

So if he wants 2 mil and you raised that up to say 3 mil you can adjust the total salary down until you reach that original 2 mil again. He will not accept a lower bonus then he wants. Its all about that guaranteed $

As it stands right now as long as you meet the players requirements he will accept the contract. When you offer the contract it will tell you right away that he wont accept it and its mostly because of the bonus money.

I tend to get my good young upcoming players to sign 6 year contracts with a 75% bonus and lower the total salary to save on cap space.

Be careful tho as players 10 years plus have a chance of retiring and if they do and have contract still left any bonus money will be applied to you teams dead cap space, also if you trade or release players with bonus money that will also be applied to your dead cap space for the next season.

Got it. Thanks for the response. I was playing with contracts a little bit yesterday. It can get tricky.

I got hit hard with a retirement this year so I learned that one the hard way.
