2031 National Football League Playoffs

As the dust settles and the Dark Horses of Destiny arrive, uncertainty faces the week 1 NFL playoff contestants. In the first game of the weekend, we have Denver (rexrob3) making their 3rd straight playoff appearance against Oakland at Denver Stadium. Favored by 2 and powered by RB Dan Meier, Denver is riding high after clinching their first division championship in 11 seasons.
Saturday afternoon, the nation travels to the City of Bridges as Pittsburgh (trslick), favored by 6, looks to destroy Los Angeles. Pittsburgh, with both WRs Juan Johnson and Raymond Moore topping 1,000 receiving yards, desperately wants to make it back to the Crown Showdown after falling short to Philly in last year’s title game.
#1 seed Miami (14-2) (Schultzie) and #2 seeded Jacksonville (11-5) have the weekend off.

Over in the National Conference, Sunday kicks off in Seattle(-2) as Tampa Bay looks to bring some Florida Sunshine into their offense after being destroyed in last weekend’s game versus the Nukes.
To close out the weekend, Minnesota is at home in the team’s first playoff appearance since 2028. Led by new GM Bullet, Minnesota is even against upstart Washington (BootsJohnson).
#1 Philadelphia (vcr5150) and #2 Albuquerque (CrazySexyBeast) have the week to recover from injuries and fantasize about cheesesteak tacos.

2031 National Football League Playoffs

After a yuge Dark Horse round that had three games become instant classics, the National Football League has arrived at the Eager Eight.

#5 Oakland, whose defense held Denver (rexrob3) to just a late game field goal, moves on to face #1 Miami (-1) in Miami for this weekend’s Saturday opener.
In the afternoon game, #3 Pittsburgh (trslick)(-6) travels to sunny Jacksonville. After narrowly escaping Los Angeles with a late game drive (https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/watch/4651#794514) - with a 1 play 75 yard touchdown pass with 1 second remaining on the game clock.

Sunday’s National Conference opener has another Dark Horse survivor, Washington (BootsJohnson) - who managed a late game winning field goal with 2 seconds left on the game clock (https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/watch/4654#794858) - facing long odds against Philadelphia (vcr5150)(-10).
The final game of the Eager Eight has the Albuquerque Nukes (CrazySexyBeast)(-7) looking to put the needle to Seattle. Seattle, another team some folks are questioning, just barely managed to defy Tampa, scoring the game clinching touchdown with 54 seconds left in the game (https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/watch/4653#794674).

2031 National Football League Crown Showdown
© Slates Productions

After much duress and so many lost bets, we finally have a champion in the NFL. Once again, the Albuquerque Nukes (CrazySexyBeast) wears the Crown heading into the 2032 season after torching Pittsburgh (trslick) 23-7 under the dome of New Orleans before a 93% paid capacity crowd of 71,065.

Yet, we get ahead of all the action that preceded the big game.

We should first address the NFL Furious Four. In the American Conference Championship, the world cast its gaze upon Miami Stadium, as Pittsburgh rolled into town with the hope of upsetting #1 Miami (Schultzie: 128-51-3 in league play). Miami, unable to move past a division championship during the 2030-31 seasons, was looking to finally get a shot at the Crown.
However, Pittsburgh had another story to dictate. Heading into the playoffs 1-3 over the three final games of the 2031 regular season, Pitt, the underdog by a field goal, oddly attempted a 64 yard field goal after driving 28 yards from their own 35. Needless to say, they missed it. After an incredulous, and offensive offensive start, the Pittsburgh D quickly stepped up, holding Miami to two punts before the O finally notched a score - a 1 yard touchdown run by RB Raymond Moore after a brilliant 9 play, 79 yard scoring drive that chewed just a few ticks over 5 minutes off the clock. From there, both defenses stepped up, with Pittsburgh forcing a safety in the 3rd. Even then, the game was already over with Pittsburgh leading 16-3 before Pitt nailed down another 10 points by game's end. The final score as the dust settled in Miami, the stadium’s underground parking lot flooded from high tide, was Pittsburgh 26, Miami 3.
(BOX: https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/box/4660)

Over in the National Conference Championship, the Albuquerque Nukes found themselves in the Furious Four for the 9th time in 12 years, this time facing Philadelphia (vcr5150) in the conquest for a 7th Crown. In a game closely played on the field, the score revealed the Nukes moving on to the League Championship 20-13. (BOX: https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/box/4661)
As both teams accumulated yardage, the key factor was the distinct limitation of league leading Philadelphia receiver Brock Court (88 Rec/1679 yards/20TD), who averaged 104.9 YPG REC in 2031, was held to just 55 receiving yards by the “Containment Field” of the ABQ D.

Which brings us to the NFL Crown Showdown.
Meeting in the Crown Showdown for only the second time - the first being in 2023 in which Pittsburgh (trslick) beat the snot outta Albuquerque (CrazySexyBeast) 48-14 in Kansas City - the Nukes were determined to detonate and devastate their way to an unprecedented 7th Crown in 9 appearances.
However, Pittsburgh had much to say, walking in military cadence heading onto the field for pre-game warmups.
However, fate was not on the journey.
Fumbling on their first possession (https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/watch/4662#795895), Pittsburgh turned the ball over after going 9 plays for 65 yards. Fortunately, the Pitt D contained the fallout and limited ABQ to a 3 and out, and then the defenses settled in. Suddenly, as a thunder torn from asunder, the Nukes took the ball with 2:45 left in the first, and quickly hammered out a 14 yard gain to RB Ellis Cleary for 1st down at the ABQ 46. (https://vikings.myfootballnow.com/watch/4662#795906)
The next play, ABQ QB Martin Wagner, settling into a not often called singleback empty 4 (1.56xpg) and behind six of his best pass blocking linemen, found himself staring down a deadly Dime normal Double WR3 Pitt M2M D. Dashing back from the snap, Wagner threw a hard pass to 3rd year WR Willie Beaman for a 46 yard touchdown.
From there, the gates opened and the Nukes’ D held, as Albuquerque walked off the field a 23-7 victor; holding the Pittsburgh offense to just 66 rushing yards on their way to championship #7.

The ticker tape parade will be held from the University of New Mexico Central Avenue Main bus stop to the International District of Louisiana Blvd and Central Wednesday.
Attendees are encouraged to wear masks and hold beers as the city goes absolutely ape-****.

Welcome to the 2032 National Football League playoffs!

We find ourselves at the gates of possibility, the Dark Horses of Destiny about to be unleashed into the fall. After a compelling NFL season which saw 17 teams finish .500 or better, the playoffs begin with a battle between two 10-6 teams; the AC West division champions Denver (rexrob3) facing off against Houston (dfisherman) at Denver. Denver, favored by 3 with four straight playoff appearances, is without RB Dan Mier (knee) and his team leading 1260 total offensive yards. First year Denver head coach Edwin Williamson was recently spotted leaving Art’s Artful Artporium after buying a whiteboard and 3 expo markers. “If I can’t figure out how to score more than 1 touchdown, Houston and their 19 ppg will dust us more quickly than a cheap armoire in a bad western.” Denver will have to find a way to add some oomph to it’s offensive output (12.3 ppg) and have a standout performance from the defense in order to move on.

The Saturday afternoon game has 10-6 New York (A) travelling to sunny areas with patches of rain Miami (Schultzie) in hopes of beating the odds (14-2 Miami is favored by 4). Perhaps, even with Miami making it’s 13th straight appearance, first time playoff participants New York will be able to wash away the franchise’s penchant for futility.
#1 Pittsburgh (15-1)(trslick) and #2 Jacksonville (14-2)(teamcleaner3000) have the bye week.

In the NFC, once again #1 Philadelphia 15-1)(vcr5150) and #2 Albuquerque (15-1)(CrazySexyBeast) have the byes. Sunday morning we will find ourselves at San Francisco Stadium where 12-4 Tampa Bay arrives favored over the hometeam by a field goal.
After missing the playoffs last year, new GM pparrish1622 led San Francisco to an 11-5 record and a NC West division title. “It certainly wasn’t easy convincing our veterans to come back after going 5-11 in 2031” stated SF head coach Charles Vasquez. “Now, we’ve certainly got our work cut out for us against speedy Tampa. Everybody is going to have to step up. Bigtime.”

To close out the Dark Horses of Destiny, the league travels to 12-4 Minnesota (Gackman). After arriving late Friday night due to seasonally freakish snowstorms that oddly concentrated within the borders of the District of Columbia from Monday morning until noon Friday, underdog Washington (10-6)(BootsJohnson) will have their hands full looking to contain the spread passing attack led by Minnesota’s QB Daniel Perkins and the hard driving 42” thighs of RB Jesse DaSilva.

Until next week, make sure the remote batteries are new and the kegs have brew!
