How do I fix this solution?

I need some help.... The team I have taken over is 14 million over the cap but I only have 46 players under contract. And the player before me somehow got over 100 million in dead cap space.

What can I do?

You need to play the renegotiation game. Go into your renegotiation wizard and work on the players with 1-3 years left on their contracts. Click onto a player, slide the two bars to the left to see what's the # he wants for you to negotiation. (bonus money)

Then what I do is basically expand out to 6 years, beat that bonus money by the smallest margin I can and save money. You'll want to sort by 'experience years' for this method of attack since you'll need to expand the bonus money over 6 years to save a lot of money per player.

Well that and you need to look at the current contract to see if there's room to create those savings. (under $1 million per year guys are pretty useless for this technique)

But basically renegotiation wizard, click on the player, slide the bars to the left, hit submit and see the bonus # you have to beat. Move the slider to 6 years and crush it to save a lot.

This looks like an exploit - is that still possible?

That's not an exploit.

It's clearing cap. You can do so by re-negotiating a contract for 6 years and by pinpointing the bonus $$$. See if it saves money and if it does - roll with it.

I don't get it...aren't bonuses conditional? For me it sounds like an exploit. What player would accept a 25/75 ratio of guaranteed/optional money?

But I'm in my first offseason negotiating anything, maybe I'm missing something. ;)

Players only care about bonus money, salary is irrelevant to them

Then it's obviously a bug. :D

A bug is a mistake. This is designed into the game engine and has been this way since Day 1.

LOL.

Ok, I misread the post. Oh my, I'm almost crying :D

I thought, you would slide both down too zero and then only need to offer the minimum on the botton (the $696,231/5yrs) as the maximum bonus for the contract.

So you could sign a player, whose default demand is 40 mil/5 years, for 1.3 mill/5 years or something.

But I got it now. Should've actually hit the button. :D ;)

Should it probably be different? Sure.
Is it a bug? No.

Ideally, if a player wants $5m bonus for a 1 year contract, he should be asking like 8 for 2, 11 for 3, 13 for 4, etc.

It makes sense, that it's "cheaper" to make a longer deal, but not like now when every year after the first is basically free.
