Contract/ Salary cap questions

I am in a league that is just now entering the playoffs. I, sadly, did not make the playoffs, but it's not surprising considering the dumpster fire the team was when I took over.

I am cutting some of my worst contracts to free up some cap space, but I have over $25M of dead cap next season (which is down from $50M this season)

I currently have $1.2M of cap space this season, but have only used $106M of the $161M cap next year.

I have some players I would like to resign to longer deals, but it says it puts me over the cap. Will this be an issue for next year? Am I safe as long as I don't approach the cap for next season?

There are about 3-4 players I want to resign, and I will have to do it before season's end, so I'm in a bit of a hurry....

Suggestions?

You won't save anything by cutting players during the playoffs. They have already got their checks.

Offer each player you want to keep a 6-year contract at the minimum salary and bonus to find the minimum bonus they will take. Divide that bonus by 18 (round up) to get the first year salary. Multiply the salary by 1.05 (round up) each year. At the bottom of the contract screen, it will tell you if you are going to save or lose money. If you sign the players you will save money on first, it will free up that much cap space.

p.s. I see at least 6 players you should re-sign, unless you had only signed them to 1-year contracts this season.

What is the best time to re-sign players you wanna keep with the renegotiation wizard? I was going to do it now, but it would bring me to the negative in my salary cap for this year. I guess I need to wait for the very first day I get the recharge of next seasons cap. When would that be? Right after the championship game? What exact cycle are they released into FA if I dont act?

Boomers should be signed ASAP. Busts and older fading players that you still want to keep long term should be signed after the Championship. After EOS, players you haven't signed will still be listed on your team, but are available as free agents.

Don't use the wizard. Someone created an excel spreadsheet that does the method I outlined for you. It's still available for download. (Someone who knows where please post a link) The wizard gives players what their agents are asking, doing the math or using the spreadsheet gives them the minimum they will take. Savings will be substantial.

I copied it to my google drive so I always have it. :)

I have done a few practice runs using the spreadsheet. Thank you for that. I have at least three players I would like to resign, but the lowest exp years out of all of them is 7. I am thinking 7 years is getting into the old or seasoned veteran category. Did you advise waiting to resign them until after the championship game? Currently I can only re-sign two of them without going into the negative balance for this season salary cap. If I sign all three, and go into negative balance before the season ends, then will my highest paid player automatically get cut?

Wasn't this loophole closed? Assuming you are aaking if you can go negative on the EOS stage ..

Someone should be cut. I never know how it works as there is no savings at this point if you are in the playoffs as all salaries have been paid.

Yes, that old loophole was definitely closed several seasons ago. You can't intentionally go into the negative on the end of season spin.

Please forgive my ignorance..... and I am still slightly confused. Was the answer to my last question yes? Are we allowed to go negative in our salary cap if it is tied into next year in terms of contracts, or if we.go negative during a cycle mid season.... will the cycle result being the computer will cut our highest paid player?
