Tribewriter,
We had a long discussion about this thread in the league chat of one of my leagues.
First, I dont believe you were attempting to do anything wrong and simply seeking some advice.
The problem isnt with discussing strategy vs certain defenses and how to attack those defenses.
The problem isnt protecting the identity of the owner whose team you posted a screenshot of your defensive scouting.
The problem is that the more specific you make the analysis, it starts to cross the line from help me with general strategy tips and becomes help me beat this specific opponent.
Sure this is an experimental team of yours during a regular season game where you want to try something different......BUT.......
What happens when someone post a similar thread asking for help and it's for a league championship game where sure the identity of the opponent isnt exposed but enough specific info is posted to allow somebody to gameplan vs an opponent with the help of a collective group.
Personally, I dont have a problem with it but from our discussion, it sure seems like a gray area.
The advice given may very well work but honestly it doesnt take into account the roster makeup, play familiarity or play knowledge of each team. QB attributes and LB attributes will directly effect how effective certain plays are plus the level of playmakers you have on offense along with the quality of defensive backs
While that additional information wasnt posted, it was requested to make a more in depth assessment. While you did show a screenshot, you showed restraint and didnt give more information.
The bottom line for me is I have zero issue with this thread EXCEPT for the screenshot. This is the help forum and asking how to attack LB in zone is a legitimate question but specifically targeting your question vs an opponent seems unfair and sets a bad precedent that could be exploited during the playoffs or even a league championship.
I want to make clear that I have absolutely no thoughts that you were intentionally trying to gain some advantage vs an opponent. For the most part, the advice given could have still been given without requesting specifics.
I think in general, everyone was trying to help but by requesting screenshots and access to the rosters, it seems some were prepared to dig in deep and create a full gameplan for you against the opponent.
Now imagine it was a title game, you accepted the advice and won. Is that right?
I have learned a bunch from the forums and I have no problem with owners helping each other. I will freely give advice and try to point newer owners in the right direction but I always try to avoid specifics.
If I've learned anything after many seasons is that what works exceptionally well for one team doesnt necessarily work for another team. So many factors go into the ultimate success or failure of any specific play that it's only through continuous trail and error over seasons worth of data that you can fully hone in on what works for your team.
Sorry for the lengthy reply, I debated about posting anything at all. I have a ton of respect for you Tribewriter and I appreciate that you deleted the screenshot. Good luck with your team
