Re: 'Play Overuse' Solution?

Just put a minimum on the number of plays you can select on defense, and if the owner doesn't meet that with their selections, make the cpu pick plays to meet the minimum.
Doesn't have to be 30. Put a minimum at 15,20, or 25.

Or, simply add 4 or 5 plays that counter the plays that are being abused...that would more than likely slow that **** down considerably.

I'm not a fan of limiting a number of times you can call a play.

I'm not a rules guy but I assume if you make a min number of plays required to prevent the same play called, can't you just make a rule to call that specific play over and over

Yes, which is why I personally favor adding plays to counter the overly used defensive plays in question.
The game currently has no screens, reverses, QB keepers, flea flickers.

It would also be nice if those slow assed RB's that nobody wants would at least be good blitz picker uppers. :)

Ya i think having the qb audible the blitz pickup to either the rb or TE would help a lot. Why would everyone run the play called if they see a jailhouse blitz coming? Smart QB's or centers would sniff it out and adjust the blocking scheme. This would add another dimension to the offense imo

In my opinion...

There needs to be more plays available to choose from.

We should be able to select as many plays from our playbooks as we'd like, not limited to 40/30 for some reason.

The impact of "play knowledge" should be reduced very significantly, or at least make the ability to learn plays much, much, much quicker. There is no reason it should take 2 seasons to learn any play.

The limit on calling a play a certain number of times should not be specific to a single play on defense, but a play type.
For example, my last game in MFN-1 I called 51 plays on defense.
23 different plays were called.
Only 1 play was called 5 times.
The rest were all 4 or less.
EVERY SINGLE PLAY WAS A BLITZ!
The worst part is that my team WON the game. Let me repeat, my team called NOTHING but blitzes all game long and still won the game. This should not happen.

This is KILLING this game for me, and many others as well. The most frustrating part is that eliminating it ASAP doesn't seem to be a high priority at all.

This is more important than QB accuracy, OL blocking, zone coverage, DL pressure, broken tackles, new stats, etc.

The only thing that comes close in importance is banning users like LYTREQ.

Hey WarEagle, I don't disagree with you about what you're saying, blitzes are way too strong and everyone would benefit from more plays being introduced. No doubt, you are right on both points. But we are not talking about the same issue, and neither of your solutions would fix the play overuse issue.

I've been playing football games since the Atari 2600, all of us oldies have. And in every game, (some more so than others,) there are plays that work well, plays that don't work, and SUPERPLAYS that work every time. And there is always guys that call those plays exclusively, and it always works, and it gets on my nerves every time. Adding plays would help, but guys will sift through those plays, find the SUPERPLAYS and call just a few of them. If blitzes become ineffective and, say, zone plays become the best plays, guys will call 6 zone plays and win that way. There are 'win at all cost' people out there that don't care about fairness or respect that will do this every time. It's more of a 'human nature' problem than a football problem...

You mentioned calling 23 blitzes and winning your game, and yeah, that probably shouldn't happen. But what I you to do now is take those 23 plays and take the 17 of them that gave up the most yards/play out. That would leave you with the 6 best plays. Now you can destroy your opponent! And that is my problem. Our issues are both valid, but one won't fix the other.

I figure that about 90-95% of guys are already well within the structure of my suggested adjustment. Most guys have full playbooks and balanced or stock plans and don't call plays more than 5 times in a game. This is simply to bring in line the guys that rely on a couple of plays to dominate and level the playing field for everyone.

But ultimately, I agree with you, and I think if both of our issues will get fixed.

Yeah they could, but the play would be limited to being used 7 or 10 times, so it would only work for a while...

Well. I would think short pass plays would counter the biltz. Maybe increase the success ratio in the short passing plays against blitz calls to allow more long gains. I look forward to whatever is implemented. You guys are uber smart.

yeah, I agree with that. One of the things that has been discussed at length is that short passes aren't effective enough and long passes are too effective. Short passes are being completed at about 60% rate, and long passes are about 45% from what I can see, although those are guesses. I think it should be 75% and 35% respectively, with medium passes falling somewhere in the middle. I'm pretty sure it's one of the things being worked on in MFN-1, so it'll be fixed soon.

Long passes are the best way to combat blitzing right now, which sounds ridiculous.

I would like to see these things fixed as well, I have only started this game playing to fill the void
of not being able to work in the real world of football anymore and like this game very much! I
still wonder how real can a game get, this one is close, but can it adjust like we would! I am not
explaning my thought very well! We played this team with a RB that could take it all the way from
any part of the field with the tinyest of holes. Scouting told us this guy hated being hit and would
stay away from contact if he wasn't in the play called! I simply told our D to hit, tackle, push this
guy on every play, he broke one for 83 in the first! He wouldn't play the second half because of all the contact our guys put on him! There will never be that human reaction in this game, right?
