Trade Cancelled Due to Cap Reasons

I'm currently in week 2 of the preseason and signed a player off waivers that put me over the salary cap (I knew that would be the result). I'm now trying to trade another player I have to get under the salary cap. I proposed a trade for just a future draft pick, and when the other owner went to accept it, it was "cancelled due to cap reason". His team has a ton of cap space, and I'm doing this to open more space up.

I'm assuming that because I'd still be over the cap after the trade goes through (cause I have other pending cuts as well to get under), it's being blocked. The issue it, I'm actually improving my cap situation with it, not making it worse.

Can this get fixed JDB? Or overruled? It's going to cost me a draft pick.

The bug is actually in the waiver wire system, technically it should not have allowed you to sign players off the waiver wire and go over the cap, as you cannot sign a free agent during the regular season and go over the cap. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do quickly enough to fix this specific issue.

Ok, thanks for replying.

I want to dig into something though - your intention is that we can't go over the cap anymore during the midweek spin? I thought that was part of the reason for the midweek spin - so we could make roster moves and then straighten them out on the next spin. Given how tight salary cap space is now, and the random nature of the waiver wire and sometimes signings, we're going to have to proactively cut players just incase we get someone.

If this is going to be this way, I think you should consider being able to tie an optional cut to a signing/waiver claim. Fantasy football leagues do this effectively to avoid the same issues.

would making the wavier wire AVAILABLE only during the regular season help or not do anything??

It makes no difference whether it's regular or preseason. In fact, the bug where the AI was cutting all of the roster was because of the waiver wire putting teams over the cap and being unable to get back under it. I did apply a fix (so the waiver wire contracts can now be released and restore the cap they used) but I still think the ultimate fix needs to be to prevent the waiver wire signings from sending a team over the cap.

I agree with the idea of preventing the waiver wire pickups from putting a team over the cap. Or maybe only 5 million over? I can understand someone trying to pick a player up and not wanting to drop anybody until confirming they got the player.

Someone in my league (Denver in NFL Showdown) picked up a bunch of top tier talent on the waiver wire and is now over 30 million over the cap. He's new and didn't realize he could be putting his team into a bad situation.

But the big thing is with waiver pickups... Nobody knows who they will get. So it would be nice to set up rules. "If I get this player, then cancel the waiver request for the other player(s)." We have so many rules we can create for gameplay, but nothing for waiver requests or free agent offers.

I think both ideas could be good to implement:
•Limit waiver pickups from putting a team over the cap (or too far over the cap?)
•Create "if/then" rules for waiver pickups and free agent offers.

Denver Broncos = https://jwebber.myfootballnow.com/team/1

actually that team probably didnt get in trouble with waiver wire their problem probably has started by signing so many players

they have 74 players on contract
11 contract offers
14 pending Cuts

I think you should be allowed to go over the cap on a waiver wire addition but like you said - roughly cap it at $5 million or less. One can see if they acquired the player and then finagle with re-signs or a cut to go back under the cap. (usually that's a $1-2 mil window via cut)

However, yeah, if this is happening and people can upend a team by going on a waiver wire bonanza....$20-30 mil into the red that needs to be guarded against. Not allowed in the game engine.

You couldn't be more wrong. I knew EXACTLY what I was doing and got my team under the cap by the next sim. (The only surprise was that more of you didn't make similar claims to limit my haul.) There is no reason why the waiver wire claims should be limited by the salary cap mid-week. Since NONE of the claimed players come with bonus salary they can all be cut without cap penalty if you end up 'winning' too many.

People need to stop trying to fix what isn't broke.

ummm.....you have been here 2 months and for you to say you knew exactly you was doing means you either had some help to do where someone told you how to do it (nothing wrong with that) or there is a small chance you have another account

doesnt matter to me nor do i give a **** about it (Dont want you to misunderstand me)

Like i said below i think is more that preshead rather not have the league be deleted where it would meet its demise like 24 ones before it.

Well i think you have the wrong thinking it isnt about fixing something i think it more about people rather not see leagues deleted so they rather bring things to ATTENTION like a team over the salary cap , team doing to many waiver claims , team signing too many players , etc.

What i think is sad is people probably rather agree or like your comment versus someone who is trying to bring something to attention and not see leagues get deleted.

And it wouldnt surprise me the same people are the ones who had the ABANDONED team button and yet that wasnot good enough for people so they FORCED jdb to delete his leagues (sure he may wanted to do that knowing they take up DATA usage though to me it is about principle if you dont want to be in a abandoned league then Abandon team then problem solved instead of throwing everyone else under the BUS and having the league deleted and maybe forcing people out where they only had 1 team and they rather not start over or from scratch yet i will disgress)

btw there is 24 leagues DELETED which are Agent 86 , Beta 87 , Talk is cheap , Custom 10 , 12 , 14 , 17 , 22 , 33 , 62 , 64 , 72 , 77 , 78 , 82 and MFN 63 , 65 , 66 , 68 , 69 , 70 , 71 , 73 and 81.

Yet we have Custom 9 on the chopping block so that would be the 25 league to be deleted

btw i am not calling you guys names If anything i am more or less DISAPPOINTED in you i would think we would NOT do things on this site that happens in the real world or even be PETTY about stuff especially when really all one is doing is giving their 2 cents which i think that person doesnt really care what you do or give a **** rather they RATHER bring something to ATTENTION which doesnt mean you have to LIKE the person or EVEN respect them at least just HEAR them out regardless if they are RIGHT or WRONG about their belief , opinion , etc.
