Re: Day One Draft Thoughts

Day one in the books and four rounds of Draftapalooza II to comb through. First impression of day one is this draft was very deep in talent compared to some other classes. There are players still available through four rounds that intrigue me. Teams that i thought had great drafts are Florida, Notre Dame, Stanford and BYU. I think a couple of these teams benefitted from high vol drops so this can be a little misleading. I wasn't impressed by Oregon after the first round as well as Tennessee whom i thought really had the headscratcher of the day with Hollyfield in the first. Only two QB's went in the rist round which caught me a little off guard as the position is usually over drafted but it makes sense when you think about the depth at the position. My favorite picks of the draft starts with Oregon's first pick overall when they went against logic and took the best player in the class. Metcalf will be a stud and Oregon got an elite talent. I love the choice of Irv Smith Jr. for Army just because he's so versatile and can fill many needs for a team that loves to move it's guys around. I thought Clemson landed a perfect Dunsford replacement in Josh Jacobs at a spot not many thought he would make it to. I loved the pick of Tyree Jackson by Florida in the second round as well as Rock Ya-Sin in the third. They added two great players after nabbing the best defensive player in the draft in Josh Allen. I think Auburn played their cards right by grabbing the risky WR A.J. Brown in the first and responded with Will Grier and LJ Collier in the next two rounds. If training camp goes well they have really made a play in the SEC West going forward. I think Oklahoma St had a nice day especially since they grabbed my guy Jace Sternberger in the fourth round. Training camp will also be key with Greedy WIlliams, Trayvon Mullen and Isaiah Johnson looking to make a big impacts. There's so many good picks so far and many that had me bewildered but overall i thought it was an emotional ride. Now it's time to regroup and get ready for sunday. There's still many impactful players still available so don't get complacent. The best Athletic Directors are the ones that grind on day two and never let up. :)
