Week 8 Heisman watch

This season the Heisman trophy is completely up for grabs. With perennial contenders like Navy's James Sherwood or Tennessee's Jonathan Demartini having sub par seasons the league will have some new faces on the list. Oklahoma State's Randy Williams is finally coming into his own and is taking control of the 6-1 Cowboy's team. After hoisting the trophy in 2017 UCLA's Robert Beall is back on the list and looking to get UCLA back into a bowl game. All-American RB Marquez Callaway has been one of the best runners the last two seasons but will he put up enough statistics to be a legitimate candidate? Rutgers is off to a great start to this season and a lot of the offensive production has been WR Richard Fitzgerald. He currently leads the NCAA in receiving TD's and has proven to be a go-to guy in a revolving QB controversy. This might be the year a defensive player finally gets the coveted Heisman award and you can't talk defense without bringing up the league's most prestigious player Keith Thomas. Thomas has done nothing that he hasn't done in other seasons but the consistency of his dominance is starting to shine through. Rutger's DE Franklin Holland is right there statistics wise with Thomas and should be considered for the top player in the league. Last but not least is Arkansas's Ken Carroll. Carroll is a highly touted prospect that is finally starting to show Razorbacks fans what he can really do. His 11 interceptions through 7 games has him on a historic pace but can the rest of his play be enough to push him to the top? Lot's of options and good debate points but the overall conclusion I've found while looking at all these players is the award is completely up for grabs. There's not one player running away with it and with 9 games still to be played things could change dramatically.

You can make a case for Nolan but Ingalls not so much. Either way it’s early and if Michigan plays better in big games you might see some guys on the list :)

I think Bill Wu will make his way into the mix. Possibly Crawford from ND as well.
The defensive players are definitely having stronger seasons as a whole.
