So i've been asked by some owners about how long you can offer a player in his last year of eligibility. Whether you are getting an 11th year player or 12th year player you can offer them as much or as long a contract as you want. Just remember that when you cut them after one season all the remaining bonus they are owed will count as dead cap. This can cripple a salary cap of a team if you are slim on money. In the past this strategy has been very popular to land high profile transfers so it is one that can be implemented with success. As the cap tightens for all teams just beware of the ramifications and start studying how it is changing in recent years. If anyone has any questions about this feel free to pm me or post in forum.
