The University of Utahs '28 season was Athletic Director Sid Allison's best finishing record of all time in the NCAA at 7-9. It is a far cry from what the program has hopes for becoming but it is a new best. Many of the Ute wins came at the end of the season, after they were out of any kind of contention for the PAC 12 South title.
The team opened up the season with a big win over Arizona then went on to lose the next 5 ballgames @UCLA, @ Florida St., Washington, USC, @ Notre Dame. The Utes got big wins over USC and UCLA this season.
QB Alex Smith had a pretty good season throwing for 3,571 yards on 64% passing, 27 TD, 11 Interceptions. Not too shabby.
Jamal Anderson quietly amassed 1,152 yards rushing and 355 passing. It was nice to see the production out of the back.
Ty Barrett caught 43/754 yards with 5 TD's, David Reed 38/714 yards with 5 TD's.
The defensive standout was Sever with 97 tackles and 2 pick 6's.
We are only losing one player to graduation so we should be able to build on this season and who knows, with some luck, have a 500 or better season.
