The Arizona Desert Swarm

As the Swarm prepare for a pig skin classic versus the Navy Midshipmen, we take a look at the team by position:

QB
Joseph Dimond, Junior. While Dimond has shown to be a good player entering his junior year, the team's success rides on his arm. This team is all in with the junior. Let's see
RB
The team chose to carry 5 RBs and plan to utilize them all. Namely Junior, Pedro Chapman and Freshman Tony Dodd look to lead the group. They are young but all have the skill set th coaches were looking for during recruiting the past few years.
WR/TE
Redshirt Sophmore Michale Duran, TE has been a pleasant spring surprise and looks to be a special player. Another redshirt sophmore, Sam Rapp WR, has been torching defenses while redshirt Junior Fred Vogelsang has come into his own
OL
Here is where the coaches are holding their collective breathes. RS Sophmore Jimmy Young RG and RS Freshman Sandy Acosta, LG hope to anchor a young inexperienced OL
DL
RS Sophmores Jackie Battles LDE and Tyron Ross RDE are fast and strong off the edges.
LBS
RS Freshman Edward France, SLB and Jeremy Greco, WLB took the biggest steps to contribute this year
DBs
This is the area that coaches heavily recruited and are hoping it pays dividends. Overall the unit did not progress as much as coaches had hoped, but this recruiting class landed bright spots, RS Freshman David Barnes, CB, Benjamin Stewart, CB, and David Lyons, FS.

Overall the team anticipates some growing pains as the season develops, but look to finish strong and receive a major bowl bid. Cheers!

After 3 weeks, the Wildcats find themselves sitting at 3-0. Preseason polls had this team looking up at a lot of flashy and highly talented teams.

What we've seen through 3 weeks, is a team that has played well as a team. The players asked to not be recognized by name, only by team. Offense isn't gonna put up eye popping numbers. They don't turn the ball over, efficient passing, and fresh RBs to carry the load. Defense, not spectacular but solid through all positions and come up with a timely stop when needed. Well disciplined and coached up.

Let's see how we fare in land of the bulldogs this week.

Week 5 Arizona 12 UCLA 10 OT

Signature win here for the Cats. Traveling to UCLA, a team averaging 50 ppg, AZ came in with a plan to slow down those Bruin horses. We knew we couldn't stop them but wanted to disrupt their flow just enough to make a game of it. Not much offensive highlights by either squad, a total of 14 sacks and 22 hurries left little scoring chances.

The biggest of all sacks in OT resulting in a safety. The entire camera system blacked out and everyone watching on TV missed the final play, only to see the final score 12-10. The sack heard around the world but no one saw. The UCLA coaching staff was so distraught they refused to shake hands at mid-field with the AZ staff. It's ok. We're a team of no one player and we love it.

I was bitter for a minute, but great game!

After shocking the BCS by beating highly touted UCLA in OT two weeks ago, the Wildcats held their own in securing two victory to move to 6-0 and remain atop the BCS by oh so little. Schedule makers couldn't be happier to have a week 7 match up of BCS 1 vs 2 as the Volunteers head west and take on the Wildcats which should be a game to watch. The Vols believe in their WRs as they are the top rushers and receivers on the squad. Wiley vet Atheltic Director Blackflys always acquires the best talent for his systems. Let's hope the game lives up to the hype and AZ doesn't lay an egg.....even Keith Jackson is excited and will call the game...

Wildcats come home and lay an egg against the UCLA Bruins. It was the biggest game of the year and the wildcat offense threw up a goose egg. The offense has been steady all year and this loss has the coaches wondering if their team has run out of gas before the most important games. Lots to look at over the final two games where the Cats are heavy favorites. Once the #1 team in the land, the Cats are looking for some confidence before the bowl series starts.

This offseason saw the Wildcats go out and recruit the RB and DB positions through the signing period. We came away with Jerome Coleman, highly touted RB, hoping to shore up the running game that lost steam as the season went along. To go with Coleman, the Wildcats also signed Luther Jones DB. You can never have enough DBs in today's game. Jones looks to add impressive cover skills to an already stout backfield. In a weak recruiting class, we feel we did ok, and hope to compete again in the BCS series.

As the end of the 2019 season has passed, its time to focus on transfers and then recruiting. Arizona is still riding the unbelievable high of winning a National Championship and as such resigned the entire coaching staff.

AD mcarovil stated this team still has a lot left in the tank. No graduations and a young OL that was their weakness a few years ago, is coming into its own. The defense is still intact and seen some improvement in an already talented Defensive Backfield. Sophmore RB Coleman looks to build off a stellar season, where he ran hard but showed nice hands out of the backfield.

Let’s see if this team and remain focused or shows signs of a Championship hangover. To be continued.......

After a divisional lost to USC to open the season, the Cats have reeled off 3 straight wins since removing Joe Dimond from the starting line up. OConnor took over as starter and Whittaker as his fill in. Whittaker, from Day 1 just seems to outplay the rest, and that includes a FBS Championship QB.

In other news, the team has eagerly been awaiting the return of SS Robert Barnes. Huckenberry has done an ok job since shifting over from nickel back, but the return of Barnes was neutered by the loss of starting MLB Reed for 10 weeks. So next man up please.

As predicted in the earlier post the Wildcats have finally settled on Wilfredo Whittaker as their starter at the QB position going forward. We’ve tried everything to keep him from seeing the field but he just produces. In addition, the Defense is finally healthy and now can focus on tightening up that run defense.
