Game 2
Hurricanes 10
Syracuse 7
Hurricanes bring the heat, Syracuse offense wilts, fall 10-7.
Only the defense of the Orange made the trip in this one as Syracuse's offense turned the ball over 4 times, leading to the winning FG early in the 4th Quarter. QB William Mitchell had his issues all game, throwing for 233 yards on 19 of 39 passing with 1 TD and 3 INT for a paltry 44.07 QBR. He was under pressure all day from the Hurricane's front seven and it showed. He was sacked 7 times on the game and pressured numerous more, forcing errant throws. RB Armijo looked good in the first quarter before the wheels fell off the rushing attack, as he was ineffective the rest of the way and ultimately fumbled the game away in the fourth.
The Orange defense definitely came to play in this one, as they held the Cane's to a mere 169 net yards on the day. They held tough in the fourth on the game winning drive, as Miami was set up inside the 10 yard line following Armijo's fumble and forced them backwards on three plays, ultimately holding them out of the endzone and keeping the damage limited to a FG off the foot of K Stanley.
It's back to the drawing board for Coach Willy and his staff as they return home to face a hungry Stanford team looking to avoid an 0-3 start to the season. While the oddsmakers favor the Orange 14 at home, inconsistent play makes this game a tossup.
