I need to brag on my son a bit here.
Last year he made the transition from JC to D1 baseball and had a tough time adjusting to metal bats and D1 hitters.
This year things are going much better. He plays for the Bradley Braves (Peoria, Illinois). The team is 8-1 and he is personally 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA (14 IP, 7 hits, 3 BB, 7K).
He is playing relaxed knowing that he has a job lined up after graduation and does not consider himself a draft prospect. He is simply having fun. I went to Nashville to watch him in person this weekend and I have never seen him sharper. (46/55 pitches were strikes).
He is not really a draft prospect because of velocity. He CAN throw 92 if he puts everything into it, but he is not effective like that. He is much better when he locates 87 and lets the ball move. A lefty can get a job like that, but not so much a RHP.
Still fun to watch him have success. While Bradley is considered "mid-major", one of his wins was against a solid Georgia Tech team. If you guys on facebook happen to have seen the video I shared (under my real name, Ken Gray) it is a shot of him walking toward the dugout before the umpire had time to call strike 3 versus GTECH.
Thanks for listening to me brag...lol
