Hmm.
This will be a project. Take over a team with only 47 rostered players, no cap room, a few guys that deserve a contract. And already $38million dead cap next year.

Then I look at the roster...That dead cap money might double or triple before we rollover. The super intelligent AI has 3-4 huge contracts for guys ready to retire.

Fun!.

I have a couple contract renegotiations set up to free cap the sign a couple guys that deserve it..Next step, make sure I know what positions I have to replace.

See you all at the top of the draft for another season or two.

It is still a league rule for no players beyond year 11, correct?

If so, I have a LOT of cuts to make as soon as game 16 is over.

It is still the rule. But I'm wondering if everyone would be willing to make a special dispensation and waive it for someone who is trying to recover a team/be somewhat competitive. Limit this waiver to one season and limit it to a certain number of "graduated" players. Something like that.

I completely understand that if someone who has been at it in this league LOSES to an owner who has these (graduated) players will stir some hard feelings about it. So I'm not trying to be insensitive to that situation.

Merely floating an idea.

Thoughts? Anyone? Everyone?

I have been very lax about this because we have so many AI teams. Let's call it a COVID year - there are a lot of NCAA players that are in their 6th year. As long as a team is not using it as an unfair advantage, I don't see a problem.

With how the CPU does these teams, give them all of the leeway they need for one offseason. Whether that’s letting a contract play out a year to move cap around, or cutting everyone and burning it down and having the dead cap erased.

I’m all for it.

Exactly! As far as I know, all of the owners in this league are here for the right reasons.

For what it's worth, these guys are not likely to help me "win".
The issue is that I don't have control when they officially retire. So if I let them stay, there will be dead cap for 3-4 seasons. I would just assume have all the dead cap money gone after next year.

So it is my intention of burning the team to the ground. Likely right after game 16 plays out.

(Don't worry, the majority of the cuts will be "old" guys that can't be acquired anyway. I will take care to ensure I am not dropping talent into the FA pool during playoffs.)
