Speed

There's a lot of people talking about speed and how it has changed. The bottom line is nothing has really changed at all except the attribute numbers. The players will play exactly the same as they did when it said they were 100 speed. The new speed ratings are the same as they were except now they are all on the same plain as every other position. We all knew lineman with 100 speed didn't run as fast as a wr with 100 speed. Now we can see what the fastest lineman actually run in comparison to WRs. So don't freak out if your guys look different than they did cause they will still perform the same way the always have. If anything it will give you a better understanding of the speed differences across position groups

i have one question about this: since speed is weighted heavily for some positions, and those positions have their speed showing as less now, would that mean the overall ratings we see would decrease for said players? Ik it doesn't make any difference but I'm assuming i wont see anymore 99 overall DEs cuz they cant get speed high enough on their bar.

sorry if i worded it badly but its just a minor question :)

ya so overall ratings are just based on the culmination of individual ratings. Just like you can adjust your own weights and the overall of your players will change. So if the speed rating goes down the overalls will go down accross the board. It doesn't effect play at all since the player is exactly the same as before. what it does is it makes the overall ratings of all players drop so instead of 100 rated players at the top you may have 95 or 92 rated guys being the best at their position. Once we get used to the lower ratings it will become more normal. I remember thinking when i first started this game how unrealistic it was to have so many 100 speed players. The way the ratings are correctly reading now reflects a more realistic view of the players.

yeah exactly. im really happy this change was finally implemented (or will be since its rolled back rn). and yeah its important to remind everyone that gameplay in no way will change from this. its just a more convenient way to look at things. im just gonna look at the best players in the league at each position and see what their overalls are so i can get a good sense for what to look for.

I understood how the actual speed did not change with the update. They were always this speed, we're just now able to see what their actual speed is. My questions are just these, just for clarity. Is a 90 speed DE lets say, faster than an 81 speed CB? Secondly, did all the formerly 100 speed, let's again say, 245 lbs LB now appear as the same speed now? I don't have the answer, obviously, but I'm thinking they all didn't "fall" to the same actual speed. I'm thinking some were always 87, and some were always 84, 82, or even 80 we just didn't know. I've sent this last question to JDB and we'll see what he says.

that';s a question for jdb cause i don't honestly know. They were all 100 speed before but is it just their weight that determines their speed in accordance with that maxed out speed? i'm not sure. I do know that there are DE's and OLB's in the NFL that are as fast or if not faster than some mid range corners. Also frame comes into question, i'm not sure frame has any say in any of this but as of now it's hidden. there's a lot to figure out, but maybe we will look more at actual production for player';s worth than their ratings. I think it's a huge step in the right direction for mfn as the old way was way to complicated for a newer user to determine value.

On Speed....another thought, which is perhaps more prevalent in modern day RZ offenses.

What about height vs speed on a post-corner fade ? Does speed have an advantage on this inside the RZ ?...more importantly...does height ?

Just a pondering thought.

i've never paid attention to height since the wr's are only generated at a certain height under 6-2. I've seen tightends moved to wr and thus give you a 6-5 or so wr but never saw a difference. this is something that should be posted for jdb to answer. we will have him on our show again but not for another month.
