Just cut your YR 11 & 12 players the night of the Championship spin.
Easy peasy:-)

Re Bowl teams - rosters are locked during Bowl season? Didn’t know that. Been a while since I’ve read through the rules tho.

The way I worded the rule was for teams to cut 11 and 12 year players once the playoffs start and no team can pick them up. I might extend that to any graduating player cut in the final quarter of the season is ineligible to be picked up and played the bowl games. It’s never really been an issue but it doesn’t hurt to think ahead :)

This is gonna change a lot of thinking about how to utilize the salary cap. Because now if you sign an 11 year player in free agency, you have to cut him before end of season and thus take a huge salary cap hit. If you could keep him until very end, then you wouldn't have to take this hit.

that's the risk you do by signing big money transfers though. If you keep them to the end like we've been seeing then the player isn't available for the first round of free agency. The main goal of this rule is to have all the transfers available for the first night of transfers. If this causes teams to rethink their overspending for one year rentals than maybe that's the best resolution :)

That's true, but what if you signed a player at the max like my TE Gould? I signed him for 6 year contract already planning to waste the cap for this 12th year and let him go after the 11th year. We did not have these rules back then and it's not fair that I will be penalized two years worth now of cap space by having to cut him while we are still in the 11th season. I'm not mad or anything, this is just my view on this. If you sign a 6 year player for 6 years, you are paying him for the entirety of all seasons in contract. He shouldn't have to go before his final season ends, playoffs or not.

Can we just add an extra day for FA to account for this?
So Day 1 of FA is to cut players and then everyone can start putting in offers for FA Day 2?
4 days of FA total?

Make it really interesting?

1) cannot sign someone with 11 or less years experience to a contract that includes year 12 and beyond.

2) can only sign a 12 year player to a one year contract

Just a thought.

I like teams throwing cap away for rentals, it makes it risky and really adds a level of intrigue to free agency. We will debate these rules on the show on wednesday so anyone with thoughts should call in

I've paid my dues with Sherwood. Now the rest of you must suffer too! ;)

Pretty sure that is what we do already. You have to cut 11 year players & you can only sign 12 year players for one year.

Unless you are ONLY referring to the contract terms. That is something that would be difficult to police.
