Bow down to Washington

I guess it's about time to make a post here...lol.

I think I will break my draft down by position:

QB: There were few blue chip QB available, and they went quickly. I opted to go with a couple low 3* QB with high accuracy. One RS Junior and one RS Senior. They should keep things solid until we find the right QB down the road.

RB: RB Drew Roscoe Was the first recruit we signed. A low volatility True freshman that should headline our offense for a long time. Training camp will dictate how the depth chart looks beyond Roscoe. One option is a 250lb Sophomore TE out of Alabama.

FB: A senior pass catcher and a Soph. blocker gives me options.

TE: The hope is Freshman TE Davis Stewert can handle the load so TE Randall Johnson can try his hand carrying the ball.

WR: Nothing special, just a handful of young guys (oldest is a RS Junior)

OL: I think a solid group. Looks like I could use a little experience at LG, but I think they will be solid.

DL: I still need to add a player or two here. But 4 of my 7 guys are in years 9-10. The positive is they don't need development and should be effective right away. I will have to recruit these positions in the next year or two.

LB: I grabbed a couple high end sophomores, but this position dried up really quick. Not a lot of depth for me here.

DB: Mixed up some Freshman and Juniors here. No blue chip guys but decent depth. The juniors will give me immediate production while the Freshman develop.

ST: Grabbed a top flight year 3 Kicker...(Good), Did not draft a punter (bad).

***I hope I did the player cards right.***

Training Camp report:

13 RS Fr....10 went down for a total of -35...ouch. Only 1 was a projected starter though.
2 went up for a +9 and both are projected starters.
1 stayed even and I am calling that a win because it was the 2nd choice overall and my starting HB.

9 year 2 FR...3 went down and 4 went up...not bad.

Biggest boom: Year 2 RT went 12/8, however, this was negated by projected starter at RT going 8/-6.

Biggest bust...a backup RS Fr went 6/-9....A late flyer anyway.

Overall, I took a hit at my thinnest positions and that is DL and LB.

The big positive is that none of my first 8 choices of the allocation draft busted, so I might be OK.

1st scrimmage thoughts:

As hoped, the QBs were both fairly efficient (75% comp). By design, two junior transfers were recruited with a low learning curve. Neither will compete for the Heisman, but they should be solid.

RS Freshman RB Myles Gaskin learned that things move much faster here than High School. No one is concerned about his future though. He showed a little explosion and caught a few passes as well.

Defensively, 2 forced TO were nice. But 7 sacks were a very pleasant surprise. It was widely thought that the DL was the weakest part of the recruiting class.

The Bad:
The two TD allowed were both home runs. A 67 td pass and a 75 yd run. Put that on the safeties and poor angles.

Next scrimmage, we flip the QB around to see how they perform with 1st and 2nd stringers.

Final scrimmage, only one thing matters...

NO INJURIES!

Already have one guy that will miss the first couple games.

1st game in the books. A nice comfortable win to kick things off...An extra bonus that it was a conference game against Stanford.

The Good:
3 pts allowed on defense. After allowing a number of big plays in the preseason, the only play that got away only made it to the 50. We had a few sacks and a number of pressures. Overall a solid A- grade.

Efficient game on offense: QB Ronald Tiffany completed 75% of his passes for 267 and 3 TD (0 int). Some surprise that he was named the starter. To be honest, I forgot to adjust my roster at QB...lol

Big shout out to Senior RB Michael Ashley. 3rd on the depth chart, he had a bigger role than expected with our normal 3rd down back injured. Ashley picked up almost 100 yds from scrimmage including a TD rec. He also had 5 PR/63 yds and a KR for 32 yds.....In case that wasn't enough, he picked up a fumble recovery on special teams.

The BAD: 11 penalties for 88 yds. This hurt Freshman RB Myles Gaskin more than anyone as Gaskin had about 50 yds of offense called back. This will need to be cleaned up. With a couple linemen listed as Q this week, it might be tough.

We also missed 2 XP. that will cost us later on if it happens again/

Another conference clash against 1-0 Arizona next.

Well ****...

Game 2 simply stunk for me. I can't remember the last time I got shut out. One trip to the red zone and we threw a pick in the end zone.

The Dawgs have some adjustments to make, that's for sure.

After a fairly strong start, the Dawgs are scuffling to a 0-2-1 record the past 3 games.

A lot of issues on the OL, but coaches have announced a change at QB.

3 fumbles two games ago and twice against Marshall allowing himself to be sacked for safeties was just too much.

I will be more impressed if he can do that against division leader, Cal.
