Jayhawk Minute

The Jayhawks had the Irish in town and we had a big crowd that showed up to see how the
team would look aginst the big boys! We let the starters play the first half and they pleased
the fans with a half time score of 20 - 7! QB Maillet was 15 out of 19 194yds 2TD's 0 INT's,
with the offenseive line giving up just one sack to the starter!
we had a good run avg., receiving looked good with everyone catching passes!
The coaches had big smiles over the starting defense giving up just 7 pts with that TD assisted
by a long return, the D had 5 sacks as well! We pray this carries over into the real season!

Well the 2nd practice game is in the books. We want to thank Marshall for the warm welcome, its
nice to visit other programs! The starting bunch held there own aginst another great team, giving
up a TD while getting in the end zone twice for the half.QB Mailiet 12 for 14 161yds a TD, he is
doing great so far! We ran a little more and RB Marek looked like the stud we thought he was,
10 for 56yds a TD, O-line did fine once more. The WR's showed off a little, Dukes(gota love the
name) 6 for 112yds a TD, Bay broke one for 81yd TD and TE's are looking sharp! The young D
gave up vary few rushing yds and had a few more sacks! The W means nothing more than the
backups played some what better, left with a few injurys, just can't coach those away!

RD 3 practice game, KU welcomed Rutgers Scarlet Nights to Memorial Stadium, Lawrence,KS
This was the type of game I loved playing in, never like them as a coach because of injuries!
Talk about punching in the mouth, kick ****, elbow eating games, this was one! We let our starters go 3 qtr, the points were hard earned, Qtr 1 K Pearson 31yd field goal KU 3 Rutgers 0,
Qtr 2 K Pearson 46yd field goal at the half KU 6 Rutgers 0, Qtr 3 no scoreing,Qtr 4 was our
2nd string vs the Rutgers starters and you could tell the talent drop all though our guys played
well! Our D forced 4 fumbles recovered 3, 1 INT and 3 more sacks!
QB Maillet 15 for 20 204yds sacked 3 times, he could be our find!
WR Dukes 6 for 96 WR Gayden 7 for 92, looking at our team with 1 senior and 9 juniors half
are backups, we hope to do well this year and get better!

Well game one is in the books and nothing new for KU fans, it was an L to start the season!
We looked like we were not ready, but we played a very good team! What eyeballll said about
the game I agree with and need say nomore. Have to shake it off and get ready for another
very good team!

KU went to Rutgers for game 2 of the season and the guys were talking about how hard a game
the practice game was with them! It was the same hard pounding game as before and we are
very lucky to escape with the win! Our team honers for the game went to WR Bruce Dukes with
3 rec 123 yds and a TD dash of 72 yds, DT Keith Thomas with 8 tackles and 1 sack! They
earned the right to first pick of hot tubs! Look out for the Scarlet Nights when you play them
they will put a hit on you!

Round 3, going into Kentucky to play who we think are a top 10 team! We played them close
as we seem to do each week, so far. We had a chance at the win as we think we have in each
game played! This game WR Dukes droped a pass in the end zone, what a downer! On the
bright side DT Keith Thomas has had two great games, last week 8 tackles 1 sack 6 hurries
and this week 10 tackles 4 sacks 15 hurries, he is a sophomore! We had not planed on a lot
of wins this year with 26 freshman and 17 sophomores, but the team is looking tuff!

Game 4, you all knew I was kidding about not another word, well I was! Arkansas came to town,
we could not stop anything they ran on offense! We played well enough to win once more, just
missing a little something, we will get it. Lots of growing time for these young guys, they have
been in every game and could be 3-1 with a few breaks! We will be on the field and keep trying
to get better!

Game 5, KU welcomed OU to Lawrence for our first get together. Both QB's found the ground
8 times, looked like we played without an O-line half the time! QB Maillet still had 334 yds and
3 TD's but 3 INT's as well! RB Marek got into the end zone on a run for the first time with 107yds
of hard running! DT Thomas had another good game with 4 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 fumbles recovered! We changed up the WR's line up a bit and it seemed to help, we will keep showing
up to play ball and hope for the best!

Game 6, Ohio State came into Memorial Stadium and that brought the fans, 47,000 hopeing
the Jayhawks would play well aginst a power house! Coaches were worried because DT Thomas
was out and he is a pass rushing machine! Smiles were everywhere as 7 times the secondary
picked of passes giving the ball back to KU! What a win for this young team, the fans are still
going nuts at the stadium!
Game ***** go to the CB's, starters and backups, for the game 5 INT's, 24 tackles and 2 forced
fumbles! RB Marek had another nice game 116yds 1TD, QB Maillet added 192yds 2 TD's

I forgot to pen anything! Game 7, found the Jayhawks in Iowa with a beat up team, this is what
I fear most injuries! When you stay healthy your team has a chance, if not it can kill a season
quickly! Iowa played great and hats of to them for the win! We played without starting RB Marek,
starting FS Duley and 3 defensive players played injured! We played as well as we could and
can only hope to get well fast!
