2047 Miami Hurricanes
Head Coach C.J. Frederick was repeatedly asked about QB Edward Strayer and could he rebound from a disappointing 2046 campaign. Coach Frederick finally had enough and said this:
"Disappointing!!!! The kid threw for over 6,400 yards and 56 TD passes and that's disappointing!!! You reporters are unbelievable!!!!
He stormed out of the press conference and he has a point but when you win the Heisman in your first season as starter, throw for 8,400 yards & 81 TDs, expectations are enormous. Strayer seemed to take the criticism in stride and entered 2047 with a calm yet determined look in his eyes.
The season started with a 20-17 lose to Clemson before Strayer bounced back to win the next 5 games tallying 2,406 yards, 20 TD passes & 7 interceptions through the first 6 games. A pace to match his 2046 passing numbers of 6,453 yards & 53 TD passes.
Then something clicked in week 7 and Strayer took it to the next gear throwing for 820 yards (10th Alltime game), 11 TD passes (4th Alltime game) & 2 interceptions. That started an incredible 6 game stretch which included a 37-30 win at home versus the heated rival Florida Gators. He combined for 3,833 yards, 40 TD passes & 9 interceptions over the next 6 games. That set a blistering pace which would shatter every NCAA passing record.
Through 12 games, Strayer is now on pace to throw for 8,337 yards & 80 TD passes which would nearly equal his totals of 8,400 & 81 from his Heisman season.
Coach Frederick trotted onto the practice field passing a group of reporters and said over his shoulder:
"You all still disappointed!?"
Edit to add:
QB Edward Strayer threw for 933 yards (3rd Alltime) and 11 TD passes (4th Alltime) in the week 12 massacre of Syracuse 101-3. It's the 3rd time in Strayer's career he had thrown 11 TD passes and its only been reached 9 times in the history of the NCAA.
