2025 - Week 1

Midshipmen Blank Utes in Season Opener

On a day where the Navy defense stood tall, the offense looked anemic but good enough to pull out a 9-0 victory in front of 26,795 fans in Annapolis. Outside of a 108 yard rushing output from true freshman RB James Smith, Jr., the Middies offense lacked any of the spark that they showed in the first couple of scrimmages. Highly prized transfer QB Randy Williams finished the day 19-25 for a paltry 135 yards and 1 interception. "Obviously, this isn't the type of game I expect of myself or of my offensive teammates, but thankfully we did enough to get a few points on the board and pull out the W," said Williams after the game.

The biggest news, however, was the Midshipmen defense. They held Utah to just 109 net yards and produced two late turnovers to seal the victory. "Man, they played well," said first year defensive coordinator Kevin Smith. "We wanted to make sure we kept them in front of us and tackle well. There's always room for improvement and I'm sure we'll find some tweaking during the film session, but I can't say how proud I am of those guys tonight."

Navy OPotG: RB - James Smith, Jr.: 19 carries, 108 yards
Navy DPotG: DT - James Wolford: 6 tckls (4 for loss), 2 sacks & CB - Tommy Rea: 5 tckls, 1 INT (40.5% comp%)
Navy PotG: RB Smith, Jr. takes his first handoff off the left side for 22 yards https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/watch/2572#487726 & Rea gets his 1st INT to seal the victory late in the 4th https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/watch/2572#487862

Athletic Director mhines7878 Gives Tearful Farewell

"It's been a wonderful ride," former Midshipmen AD mhines7878 said as he announced his resignation as Athletic Director for the Navy Midshipmen only days after the National Title defeat to Oklahoma St. "It was a very difficult decision to make but in the end I feel that we've accomplished something truly great here in Annapolis and now it's time for me to find a new challenge with the University of Texas."

mhines7878 takes over as Athletic Director for a proud Texas program that has struggled to keep up with (reigning National Title holder) Oklahoma St. and Oklahoma.

"I wish nothing but the best for the Midshipmen in the future and I hope to see them sometime in the National Title game!"
