Texas hosted Iowa in pre-season game #1 action last night and got the win 30-27.

McCartney didn't have his usual fumble gone for touchdown but he did throw a pick. This time the Texas d flipped the script and took an Iowa fumble 63 yards for 6. It was real nice to see the other side of the play.

Texas goes to Ohio State to play pre season game #2.

PRE SEASON OHIO ST. 27 TEXAS 26

The team was up in Ohio to take on the Buckeyes last game and played pretty well in the 1st half going into the locker room tied at 14.

The third quarter saw Texas take a 12 point lead but it wasn't to last as Ohio State came back with two TD's and kicked one of their PAT's and took the game.

Gribble ran the ball well 12/93 with a couple of Touchdowns. Jacob Chamberlain and WR Pucci had scores as well.

Benny Mossmann will be cut from the team following this game. The two missed PAT's are enough to revoke the scholarship.

Porter led the defense with 8 tackles. Rookie CB played pretty well and had 5 tackles. James Strunk and Steve Henderson provided some pressure from the DE position and each end got to the QB for a sack.
Fred Mitchell saw limited action and didn't catch a pass.

the Scarlet Knights come to Austin to finish out pre season tonight.

TEXAS WINS! TEXAS WINS!

Anthony Patchen took the Longhorn team on his shoulders last night. He ran 25 times for 114 yards, caught 3 passes for 24 yards, and had a 108 yard kickoff return TD and the Longhorns beat Kansas 28-16 to give the Athletic Director, Sid Allison his 1st Big 12 victory.

"It feels great to get that monkey off my back." "Now we need to look at the Oklahoma's and see if we can get a win out of the 4 games we have to play them." said Sid Allison.

The Texas defense did one **** of a job as well, keeping the Jayhawks out of the end zone until late in the 4th quarter. James Strunk had a sack, Raul Lewis had an interception.

The Longhorns host Oklahoma State next week and are 14 point underdogs at home in Austin.

TEXAS LOSES TO KENTUCKY

Carroll McCartney had the Texas team in a position to beat Kentucky last night in Austin. But it was not to be as the Wildcats stormed back and beat the Longhorns 33-28. It was a disappointing loss for the Texas team that really played well except that they gave the football away 4 times. It's hard to beat a good team, or anyone when you turn the ball over.

McCartney went 21/38 for 262 yards, 4 TD and 2 INT. he was sacked 4 times for a loss of 42 yards. Most of his throws were accurate although he did throw some up for grabs when he was feeling the pressure from the Kentucky blitz.
Gribble carried 17/79 yards, Patchen 3/23 yards in the ground game. Freddy Mitchell caught 4/80 yards. McLane, Vigue, Clover, and Gonzalez had TD catches.

On D, Pearsson led with 9 tackles, Mc Lane played well and seemed to be everywhere in the first half. Lowery, Bradshaw, and Delissio each sacked the Kentucky QB.

Up next on the schedule is Kansas who will surely be looking to get back the game that Texas won a few weeks ago.

LONGHORNS BLOWN OUT IN TALLAHASSEE

Texas went down to Tallahassee, Florida to play Florida State and were blown out. The Longhorn defense couldn't stop the Seminoles as they put up 9 TD's. It was a rough game to be a part of.

LDE James Strunk and LB Julius Mills were both injured in the loss. Herbert McKnight is hurt as well.

The Longhorns host the Utah Utes next and are desperate to stop their losing streak.

TEXAS FALLS SHORT IN NORMAN, OKLAHOMA

The Longhorns came up 4 points short in Norman, Oklahoma last night. With 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter The Longhorns had the Sooners on the ropes when they were flagged for two consecutive Unnecessary Roughness penalties. They used the 30 yards and scored the go ahead TD. I think the refs need to let the kids play. It is a rivalry game and no one was injured on either of the plays.

Carroll McCartney was on target last night. Possibly his best game here at Texas. 24/36 for 563 yards, 6 touchdowns and 0 pick. He found Robert McLane 6/249 with 4 TD. Ronald Clower caught 2 TD passes.

On defense Mills led with 10 tackles. FB Jacob Chamberlain had a forced fumble on a Special teams play, nice hitting.

LONGHORNS HANG ON TO BEAT A&M

Anthony Patchen took the opening kick to the end zone and Texas built an early 21 point lead then held on to send the Aggies back to College Station with a loss.

McCartney played pretty well. Hanging on to the football when he did take a sack, and only throwing 1 pick. He ended up 19/30 for 256 yards, 3 TD and 1 interception. Gonzalez, Clower and Vigue all had TD receptions.

Byron Gribble was the man in the rushing game 20 carries for 87 yards. He is doing well helping the Texas offense be unpredictable because if you drop back and try to cover receivers, he can have some room to work. Patchen had 12 carries for 26 hard earned yards as well. An overall nice effort from the two RB's.

On the other side of the football, Pearsson and Lewis had 6 tackles each to lead the team. Mills and Lewis had interceptions. DT Bradshaw had one **** of a game, 2 sacks and a forced fumble. Henderson, back from injury had a sack as well. It is nice to see the big men up front have an such an impact on the football game. James Strunk was in a reserve role due to injury.

FLORIDA DEFENSE COOLS OFF TEXAS

Leon Balzer had 4 sacks and the Florida defense played lights out and the Gators beat the Longhorns 33-24 last night in Gainsville. McCartney could not really ever get things going to his WR's. Jetton had 1 catch and Mitchell had none.

Anthony Patchen returned 3 kickoffs for TD's as he did what he could to keep the Longhorns in the ballgame. It was an outstanding performance from the RB.

LONGHORNS GOUGE TROJANS

Texas went to beautiful Southern California to take on the Trojans of USC and left the "bullring" so to speak the winner of this meeting. McCartney found Mitchell for pass plays of 75 and 89 yards on offense. James Strunk sacked the USC QB twice, had 4 tackles, showed his athleticism and soft hands with a pick to lead the Longhorns to a 37-22 victory.

"It was far from what we're capable of but a win is a win" said McCartney.

The Longhorns host Georgia next in Austin.
