11 Nov 2018 - Week 11Navy - 27 at Texas 15Middies Defeat Longhorns to Keep Bowl Hopes AliveComing in to the game, Navy looked to keep pace in the bowl race against a high-pressure Texas defense that was also looking to stay in bowl contention. Texas came into the game with the NCAA's best rush defense, and Navy apparently agreed as they stayed mainly in the air only running the ball 10 times in the game. Heisman contender James Sherwood did the rest, throwing for 397 yards and 4 TDs in a 27-15 win over the Longhorns.
"We knew that Texas was going to bring pressure all night," said Offensive Coordinator David Allen. "It says something when your QB only throws for 397 yards and it's seen as just another day in the office for him."
Despite the constant pressure, Sherwood was able to put Navy on his 6'2", 200 pound frame and carry them to the finish line. The spotlight was on Albert Hoffman once more as he seems to have found his rhythm in the Navy offense finishing with 11 receptions for 129 yards and another score.
Navy's defense had a solid showing as well, holding the vaunted Texas rushing attack to less than 3.5 yards per carry. They were able to get off the field on 3rd downs as well, stopping the Longhorns on 14 out of 18 3rd down conversions on the night.
Next week, the Middies have one of their toughest challenges against top ranked Notre Dame.
