I'd like to second the 'notion' that Big Poppa has floated here. Regulated. Limited. I like the idea of evolving to compensate the strains that Michaelis talking about.

Just to extend what jcswish quoted on, myself included have never experienced a draft like this one during my time in MFN!
For the most part, pretty much all busts, even a few sub 30 volatility.

I like big poppa's take on having just a period (transfer portal) every season , maybe during early FA?
Because for a league that is dependant on the draft should add another dimension along with FA in building their teams.
Maybe enforce a cap on number of trades per team?
Cant have an over abundance of trades.

I just don't know how it would be regulated. If trade criteria could be picked over, I'd be for it, but I have no idea what the capabilities are.

Would we allow draft pick trading for players, or would it just be player for player? And that, as always, comes with dead cap issues that trading leagues have always had to deal with.

I have always been 100% against trading in this league, but these drafts are swaying me. And I generally fair better than most when it comes to volatility bombing.

If we were to consider this idea: (my thoughts)

- I would say NO to trading any draft picks.
- Player for Player only (1 for 1 only)
- 2 trades per off-season, per team.
- Each trade subject to Commissioner + 2 or 4 Owners (Approval or Denial)

jabillups can delay spins, so we could open a window (via delays) for owners to PM one another and work out deals before a pre-designated day (or days) to propose/execute trades using the software.
- Maybe have that window be after TC and before the 1st Pre-season game

Just ideas...floating them out there to be discussed.

This would be perfect in my opinion...but I don't think it can be set up for the off season because of the way the game is coded.( I could be wrong though)

I think it would have to be within games 1 thru 8 like it is now. We could always shorten that to 2 or 3 games, (Say 1 thru 3, or 1 and 2) and regulate it with a league rule.
1 to 3 is early enough to contribute to a team in the new season and owners could negotiate trades at any time.

I don't know if any of this will work or not... but this league is hard enough without trading and now with less than desirable draft classes, well, good luck! :)

I'd personally rather not have trading at all. I can't stand leagues that allow owners to hoard draft picks... 15 to 20 draft picks is just....stupid.

I'm not advocating for a change, Im just putting ideas out there. But if we can make a small change that is within the code and will benefit everyone...I'm good with that. I'm also good with staying put and hoping the draft classes get a huge buff next season.

I really don't see any need to add trades - that was one of the MAJOR selling features to this league. Theres always been a premium on the allocation draft and if we stop and think about what actually happens in college football, you don't have 1 program trading another it's players, that's all run through a free agent portal.

The reality is this: if the draft classes have been bad (and they are!), it's a reality for everyone. Even more so the poor saps (like myself this past draft) that miss the draft entirely and get 0 usable players.

To me trading will really hurt the uniqueness of the league.

My two cents. I took Oregon who was a junk team for many seasons and went 12-4. I was probably lucky, but I stay in this league because there are no trades. Is it more difficult yes. Does an owner have to pay closer attention yes. Adding trading will take away from the originality of the league and make it like every other.

I'm against allowing trades.

First & foremost every single one of us agreed to that rule when we entered this league. Why change it?

The Draft Class might be ****, but it is **** for every single one of us.

I've been in leagues that had a "Trade Council" (Paydirt is one of them). That league is on it's 3rd Admin because regulating trades was just too much of a headache.

Another issue of a "Trade Council" is that you cannot & will not please every single one of us. Paydirt struggled with that issue as well. I left that league for a period of time because certain teams seemed allowed to get away with more than other teams when trading.

If we decide to allow trading for any amount of time, we are absolutely asking for trouble.

That's my opinion. It won't change.

This league has had issues with tanking & free agent signings. Let's not knowingly entertain another possibility to cause turmoil in what is one of the better leagues in this game.

The draft pick trading is my main sticking point to trading leagues and always has been. It could be argued that with the drafts being as they are it makes the picks less valuable, but I think the opposite. Getting to leverage your way into a top 5 spot right now is worth 4-5 late first round picks, especially for a contending team. And pick hoarding, and I'm not blameless there, has killed every league I was ever involved with.

Yeah, I joined this league as well a first time (amongst a few), I will admit, in garrok’s quote, “unique,” is what kept me constantly active in this league, we had at that time the best commissioner ever known to MFN, i’m all about teambuilding, not bullying of any kind, and I myself have been involved in a number of leagues one in particular where there was constantly a trading bully, From my viewpoint (if you let it) it can wreck a league as opposed to giving an edge or helping owners build their franchise! When we are confronted with anything good we all have equal share to it, same can be said about a bad draft! I’m afraid we’re all in this together , I don’t think it’s necessary to put this scepticism about trading allowed to a vote, why bother! If I had a bad draft, or if I had the worst ever, so be it, there’s always next season!
