Husky fans were quite interested in taking the QB of the future in the 1st rd....but, the coaching staff went with their head instead and went the team's biggest need of Linebacker.

With only 3 LB on the roster, the Dawgs took Dave Hoffman

A well rounded player, he can man all 3 spots.

After a 2nd straight horrible training camps, thus a second straight year not adding any starting players, I can only hope to maintain my hold on the Pac-12 North.

Eventually, one of these other teams is going to make a leap. It will take some creativity for me to match last year's success.

I'm going to switch it up and move Gaskin to TE and pass 98% of the time

Husky Nation is sad to announce that the scholarship for WR Jermaine Kearse has been revoked.

After bringing in a little more help at DB, there was no room for a WR6 in the locker room. He will hit the waiver wire next sim

The Huskies announced today that former starter, Senior QB Joseph London has chosen to walk away from the team before season's end.

London has received enough credits to graduate and is opting to enter to workforce now as opportunity has presented itself.

London's departure has opened a roster spot for 4th yr LB Billy Kidd who will provide needed depth on defense with good speed. He hopes to impress the team enough to earn a scholarship heading into next season.

After a disappointing 8-8 season, the Huskies managed to limp into their 4th straight Pac12 north titile.

This was a season marred by injuries to their top offensive player (Gaskin) and their top pass rusher (Entmen)

A couple minor injuries all that remain give them hope for a 1st round upset over Marshall.

Here is our season in review:

QB Ronald Tiffany was forced to pass more than he normally would. That led to 4863 yds passing (10 yds shy of a team record) but also 23 int (A team record by a wide margin). That will need to be cleaned up if the Dawgs wish to return to top form.

On the ground, Myles Gaskin missed 4 games with an ankle injury. He still managed to sneak to his 5th straight 1000 yd season (1009) and added 402 receiving yards to go with 9 TD.

The receivers answered with a pretty nice showing this year.
WR Tim Wheeler broke team records with 90 catches, 1300 yds and added 10 TD.
The Dawgs nearly had four 1000yd receivers:
Dean Smith (1078)
Aaron Bernel (950)
TE David Stawert (944)
*Stewart's 944 yds were second in the nation among TE, and his 64 catches ranked him 3rd. He added 6 TD to become a major part of the team's attack.

Defensively, {player=2803]MLB Harold Masters[/player] was called out in the preseason by Bryson and answered with the team's first 100 tackle season (103). He added 3 sacks and 2 int. The Huskies never have big showings in the tackle department as our running game often shortens the game and cuts back on the opponent's number of plays run.

LDE Mark Perry stepped up this season with a team record 22 sacks to go with 66 hurries. Earning him his 1st All-American honor. (1st team). Well deserved as even in our bad games, his pressure was the one thing we had going for us.

On special teams, K Allen Mata had a special season. Perfect in fact. 34/34 FG included 7/7 from 50+. 42/42 XP were a nice addition. He earned 2nd team All-American for his efforts.

A couple of our OL earned 2nd team honors as well. (Kevin Fralick and Mario Gardner)
Gardner was one of two year 12 seniors brought in this year and paid off nicely as the normal RT ended up on season ending IR.

The other year 12 senior was DE Glen Belle. While Belle provided depth and filled in when Entmen got hurt a few games. But with only 6 sacks, the Huskies were hoping for a little more. Especially committing some cap space next year to bring him in.

All in all, I can't complain. We had a poor draft due to positional needs dictating who we picked, and then a horrible camp to make things worse. A bowl game is more than I was expecting.

Outlook for 2022....

After trying our hand at buying a couple top end year 12 players and having it not work out, there is a very good chance we don't go down that path again this season. Already $19M in dead money, we not be able to afford it anyway. (Although, not sure who's out there...lol)

We feel that we have a starting 22 that can match up with most anyone. We get in trouble with depth at a couple spots, so that will need to be addressed.

First and foremost, I need our first pick to NOT bust! (-12) two years in a row hurts. My first choices the past two years will never be starters for me, and that can't happen anymore.

Like everyone else, DB is always a priority. I need a CB2 with speed. But for that, whoever I pick will be a reach as those guys go fast. The top guys available all carry some volatility. So that MIGHT make one of them slide to me, but also make it a scary pick.

A long term QB replacement should be looked at soon as Tiffany enters his year 10 senior season. I can't imagine McCartney slides past the top 3-4 picks and the only other high profile QB carries 74 volatility...Maybe

OLine depth would also be nice and should be available. No specific position to look for, just depth.

With all that, I told myself after last season that I would look very hard at simply best player available. I won't turn down a quality RB/WR or a DE if the right guy is there.

I look forward to bouncing back. Hoping that 8-8 is the floor for this group. I don't see getting worse than that.

This is the 5th "recruitment period" since allocation. Each of the past 4 seasons I have drafted positional need in the 1st rd. DE Steve Entmen and DT Danny Shelton have worked out nicely. LG Jeff Pahukoa will be hard pressed to keep his scholarship through his senior season (He got a couple extra years when I restructured his contract). And LB Dave Hoffman will be no better than a backup.

So, this season I wanted two things: 1) A pick that doesn't bust and 2) Best player available. It would be a bonus if I got those things in a position of need.

So, the 1st rd brought me RB Ed Dalton. RB was hardly a position of need, but my top two WR are in year 9 and 10. One thing holding be back when bowl games come around is a lack of big plays in the pass game. Dalton lacks top end speed, but his ball carry and break tackle skills should give him solid YAC numbers. I am torn between a permanent position change or not, as Dalton may serve well back at RB the 2nd half of his career. But a move to WR and the drop in weight may add to his speed.

Dalton comes to camp with a volatility of 2, so a bust is not likely. Plus, throw in the fact that Sloth's mock draft had him #8, and I feel like I was able to add talent to my team. Hopefully, the next few rounds prove as positive.

Rd 2
CB Joseph Pearce
After taking a totally safe player in round 1, The Dawgs took a bigger risk with their 2nd round recruit. A Safety in High School, he has a much higher ceiling as a CB. 88 in volatility means high risk, but as long as he can maintain his speed/acc in the 75 range, he fits well as the CB2 on the team.

Rd 3
Another big gamble....The Huskies bring in RT Gerardo Taylor.
Taylor is definitely not a prototypical tackle in this league with a very low pass block skill. But the Huskies are hoping their coaches can pull of a miracle and turn his 98 volatility into gold.
Of the linemen left at this point, Taylor offered the best combo of Speed/Acc/Strength. Already a solid run blocker, I am only counting on the one key category.

If he does not boom, he likely won't survive camp. But I knew a higher ceiling was not out there.

Rd 4
QB Robert Vides
My third high volatility player in a row. I was hoping to get someone to compete at the QB position this draft. Ronald Tiffany is a year 10 Senior and my 2nd string is just that.

What Vides lacks in athleticism, he makes up for by being brilliant. His only other recruitment options were Ivy League schools, but the opportunity to play in the Pac12 was too much to pass up. If he doesn't bust, can make a passable competition for next season's starting role. If he busts? Oh well. If he booms? Well, I might roll with him the next 10 seasons.

Rd 5:
RT James Lee.
Another attempt to fill a need at RT, but from a different angle. Converted from FB, Lee brings solid blocking ability that we hope grows with his weight. He lacks the athleticism needed to block speed rushers, but so did everyone else beyond the 3rd rd. If my 2nd rd recruit, Gerardo Taylor busts, Lee can at least fill the roster spot.

Rd 6 and Rd 7:
Basically camp fodder here, we let the scouts send us a couple guys. WR Peter Ginn is extremely mediocre with a 100 volatility. Who knows?
FS Jeremy Hartle has OK speed/acc for this late in recruitment, but does nothing else well. Reports are the Lacrosse team is currently scouting him.
