As added RT insurance, the Huskies announce that 12th year Senior, Michael Titus has agreed to transfer to the UW.

Formally from Kansas, Titus is finishing medical school at the UW hospital. He is not a lock to make it to fall, but will provide camp leadership for the young "could-be" freshman.

Training Camp results:

Mixed bag, but I did have a couple players to be excited about.

Round 1:
RB/WR Ed Dalton. We weren't entirely sure where to place him during training camp. At the last minute, we switched him to WR. He lost 5 lbs and went +10/+1. Happily went from 20/82 pass catching to 70/87, while he still managed to make a gain in break tackle. He will slot in as our WR2, and, if need be, can move back to RB the second half of his career when Gaskin graduates.

Round 2:
CB Joseph Pearce. +16/+7
An exciting development to have a boom in round 2. While he still has some work to do to reach his potential, Pearce managed to nearly max his potential in both Man and Zone coverage. In addition, he became a top notch run defender and a capable tackler. He will begin the year as CB2 and I have teams with less talent at CB1.

Round 3:
RT Gerardo Taylor. 0/-13
Opposite side of the coin here. I knew he was a risk, but I didn't expect him to lose EVERYTHING of his potential as a blocker. (example? his pre-camp pass block was 13/53, post camp 13/27...Holy ****! I may not even let him see the field.

Round 4:
[player=4676]QB Robert Vides
. +9/+5
Pretty solid camp for a high risk QB. Most importantly, his gain included maxing out accuracy. So while he is an absolute statue, 100/100 in intelligence/accuracy, with respectable other skills means he makes the team. We will roster 3 QB until Tiffany graduates.

Round 5, 6, 7....None will make the team, but it is of note that the 1st player I allowed the AI to pick was a 100 vol WR and he managed an impressive 0/-19.

As a whole, I am happy. Added a playmaker on offense. Added a starting CB and found a useable QB in the 4th round. Unfortunate that I failed to add a decent OL again. That will have to be corrected next season early in the draft.

The Huskies are coming off another Pac 12 north title. We managed a solid 1st round bowl win over Navy as well, in spite of star RB Myles Gaskin missing the bowl season with a leg injury.

Coming into the 2023 season, the Dawgs knew that they were losing a couple OL depth players and spent much of the off season scouting guys for the trenches.

The Huskies were surprised to hear of the decision from WR Tim Wheeler not to return for his Senior season. Wheeler leaves as the career leader in receptions (449) and yards (6553) to go with 40 TD. While some speculate that Wheeler was disappointed to lose the #1 spot to Freshman Ed Dalton, we assure Husky fans that Wheeler is simply taking advantage of graduating early and starting the next phase of his life and we wish him the best.

That said, the Huskies made strong pushes for a couple WR transfers but failed. We did coax Marcus Wynn from Tennessee. A long time RG for the Volunteers, Wynn will slide out to RT in the Husky offense and hopefully be a solid mentor for the young guys coming into camp.

2023 commits:
1st Round- With two glaring needs (OL and WR) the Huskies had both options on the table with their first signing. We left WR Langdon (now known as David Terrell) on the board and went with big LT Trey Adams. There were no blue chip players around at this time, so coaches went with the best combo they could find. Concerns about his first step make him not a guaranteed starter, but as long as he doesn't have a bad camp, he will improve the Huskies depth. Long term, he may end up moving inside. (Or maybe short term, we will see how camp goes.
**camp news** A lackluster camp (10/-2) he still improves depth, but the Dawgs will need to find another starter quality player soon when guys get ready for graduation.

2nd round- Again, the Dawgs chose to address their OL depth. Landon McGarry was an interior lineman in HS, but his 100 potential pass block skill and decent ability to move around make the coaches comfortable with his ability to move outside. McGarry will go to camp learning from transfer Wynn and hopefully anchor the line long term.
**camp news**, Did not have a good camp (13/-4), but kept most of his pass block ability. He will stay at RT and likely start in year 2.

3rd round- Finally the Huskies made a selection to address the exit of WR Wheeler. Paul Skansi lacks the top end speed, but showed high marks in ball carrying skills and an ability to get open. Skansi is already penciled into the slot position.
**camp news** Did not have a good camp (13/-3) but did enough to maintain his WR3 position.

4th round- A bit of a flyer here. David Monson played a lot of TE in high school, but was never a great blocker. The Huskies have leaned heavily on Myles Gaskin over the years and have not had a RB3 for some time. Coaches think that Monson can fill multiple roles and will send him to camp as a RB so he can lose some weight. The expectation is that he can fill the RB3 role when needed and run some routes the rest of the time.
**camp news** Did not lose as much weight as coaches wanted, but otherwise a good camp (9/7).

5th round- WLB Richard Palmer and 7th round pick DT Adam McClung both come to camp with very average skills and a little upside. But they both play positions that we lack depth, so good camps may help them stick.
**camp news** DT McClung had a good camp (10/3) and seems like he might make the team. Palmer however (8/-2) will have a tough time. Coaches are contemplating a position change.

6th round pick needs no write up. I was absent for the pick and the AI gave me a **** pick.

After a long meeting with coaches, 11th year graduate QB Ronald Tiffany has agreed to bypass the remainder of his scholarship for the 2023 season.

Citing the fact that the game has passed him by, Tiffany leaves a solid legacy. A career 96.5 passer rating and nearly a 3/1 TD/INT ratio will be hard to replicate.

The Huskies will roll the rest of what has become a lost season with their two young QB. Hopefully we can find some kind of formula that will work heading down the road.

Well, this is the earliest I have had to do a season wrap-up.

I thought I had another year before rebuilding, but the way my QB (Tiffany) responded to code changes, and my own deficiencies in understanding what is needed to succeed in the new version started the downswing much quicker.

The past season:
It became quickly evident that we don't have a long term answer at QB. And an early glance at the draft class tells me I might not find one this season.

At RB, Myles Gaskin was his usual solid self. 1166 yds in 14 games (plus 73/449 rec) made for quality numbers. The 3 total TD were a disappointment though.

RB2 Ernest Moore had his best season to date. Over 1000 total yds and 6 TD (3 rush, 3 rec).

At WR: WR Paul Skansi was easily the top Freshman on the team. Working mostly from the slot, Skansi led the team with 1179 yds and 7 TD (on 66 rec).

Last year's All-Rookie selection Ed Dalton felt the pain of the turmoil the Dawgs went through at QB. A solid 64 catches only yielded 800 yds and 2 TD. The eye opening stat was the 135 targets (only 47% catch). Dalton did remind people of his former RB prowess from the FCS by filling in at HB in game 16 with a nice 19/123 showing.

This season's other Freshmen had little/no impact. RT Landon McGarry spent most of the season on the IR. And LT Trey Adams barely saw the field. After bombing the last training camp, they will both be lucky to receive 2nd contracts.

Looking ahead:
The Huskies are projected to pick 7th. The first time we have been in the top 20. So there is hope to get help in round 1. A QB at that spot is not likely, based on the projected draft class. But between graduations and past draft busts, there are plenty of position needs. (OL, LB, team speed, QB) so the Huskies will not be handcuffed by positional needs.

Fans are prepping for a multi-year reshaping of the team.

The Huskies announce the signing of transfer QB Roy Ackley.
A career backup down the road in Eugene due to a lack of accuracy, the Huskies will give Ackley and his athletic ability a chance to start.
Admittedly, Husky coaches are still on the recruiting trail for QB, but have not found anyone worth the #10 pick. (I am a little irritated that I drew the short straw against the other .312 teams).
The Huskies just missed out on WR Juan Suarez in spite of the $63M offer.

There are a couple other transfer offers out there, but we do not seem inclined to make big offers to the graduate transfers.

Draft Day/Training Camp 2024

After a disappointing 2023 season where the Huskies fell off their perch rather suddenly, this was a signing season that was the most important to date for the Dawgs long term future.

In the 1st round, the Huskies surprised a bit by not approaching a position of need and they signed RB/WR Napolean Kaufman. The DB we had eyes on were signed in front of us, the coaches decided to ensure that 8th year RB Myles Gaskin has his long term replacement. Kaufman does not have elite speed, but checks all the other boxes. Training camp was kind to Kaufman as he went +18/0.

Kaufman will move into the WR2 role for this season. But should Gaskin get injured, Kaufman will step into his role.

Round 2: The Huskies have had a horrible time with highly ranked OL busting in camp. So there was a combination of excitement and trepidation when OL German Nam was sitting there at 2.9. entering camp with a 96 rating and a high floor, Husky coaches unfortunately saw him mange to reach that high floor. (+5/-14) makes him barely any better than the other training camp busts he will be competing for playing time with.
Nam will work at RG2 and likely take the #1 spot when the starter graduates. For lack of better options.

Round 3: WLB Joe Kelly was the star of training camp. +12/+5. Kelly became the most important signing of the season for the Huskies. With two incumbent LB in year 10 (Stewart likely not returning next season), Kelly will be a starter by 2025.

Round 4: CB Kevin King does not have the elite speed coaches were hoping for, but those guys get snapped up awfully quick on signing day +14/+1 camp is not bad. While lacking top speed, King does B/R coverage better than the current roster and will slide into the CB3 spot.

Round 5: SS Nesby Glasgow. +4/-4 camp is not exciting, but the lack of DB depth on the roster means Glasgow will have a spot on the team. Decent speed, but not the greatest cover skills. The Huskies gave up a LOT of big plays last season and we are hoping teams have to run more than 1-2 plays to score.

Round 6: FB Rick Fenney. It is rare that teams look for a starter by round 6, but Husky coaches were hopeful that Fenney would be able to bring a ball handling skill to the FB position that they have frankly never had. Unfortunately, a +11/-5 camp has tempered expectations. Fenney still projects as the FB1, but if he proves unable to lead block for Gaskin, that might not last.

Round 7: CB John Jackson. Again, I can't remember the last time a 7th round signee had a chance to make the roster, but Jackson does. Jackson bring very good speed (and not much else) to a position with no depth. Again, the hope is to prevent the 75 yd TDs

Walk-on: S Lawrence Harper. Proving the desperation of the Husky coaching staff in their search for more team speed on defense, Harper walked onto the field with a less than impressive resume of being a HS punter. But showing an ability to fly down the field and run into people, he will get a legitimate shot to stick in preseason.

After signing QB Ackley in the offseason, Husky coaches chose to also bring in a transfer from Kentucky to compete for the QB position.

QB Michael Napoli
He has a pretty solid set of skills and is very athletic. While he had an extremely mediocre career at Kentucky, coaches felt he could potentially lead the team for the next two years.

Unfortunately, his stat line early in the season is possibly the worst numbers I have ever had from a QB. 48/115 (41.7%), 611 yds 3TD/6int.

The only positive is that he came in on a cheap, no risk deal. He will be available next week for anyone that wishes to have him.

Now that the Dawgs have been officially eliminated from bowl consideration, I will give an early review of the season.

7-8 right now is probably as much as we could hope for with the turmoil at QB. After being benched a couple weeks during the Napoli experiment, Ackley put a few decent weeks together to get the team to 7-6. However, the past two weeks against quality opponents (Ohio St, WSU) he has been absolutely horrible. Unfortunately, there is a huge financial commitment that may hamstring the team into keeping him around. Certainly, it is unlikely we throw $$ at any potential transfers.

A great example of what the QB issues have done is former All-Fresh WR Ed Dalton. only 43/686 with an embarrassing 36.8% catch rate.

Positives for the 2024 season:
After an injury slowed season or two, Gaskin is finishing the season strong. He enters week 16 #2 in the nation in rushing (1326). This is his 2nd best rushing average (5.3...behind the 6.0 his Heisman campaign). He has added 58/490 receiving and totaled 13TD.

Freshman RB/WR Napolean Kaufman has spent time at both positions. An terrific all purpose back his first season. Kaufman has 464 rush, 354 rec with 7 total TD. He also has 690 KR yards (39.0 avg) with 3 TD.

On defense, longtime LB Harold Masters has had another solid season. 82 tack, 4 int, 1 sack. Masters has never put up all-American numbers, but has been a quality LB for a long time. Questions have come up about his hanging the cleats up after year 10 (20%), but coaches have committed to Masters by extending the scholarship in the past 12 hours.

DE Steve Entmen has had one of his better seasons. A very active 77 tackles is a big number for a lineman. 18 sacks ranks as his 2nd best season.

Two freshmen CB have shown promise. Kevin King has played decently in the CB3 position, and CB4 John Jackson has a surprising 4int on only 25 targets.

Backup QB Robert Vides will get the final start of the season as I have a hunch 4.4 will be worse for Ackley.

The Huskies will say goodbye to WLB Jacob Stewart. Like Masters, this is only his season 10, but a more severe downgrade in his skills have convinced the coaches to allow him to explore transfer options. His 552 tackles rank him third in team history.
