National Signing Days

By Chandyo
7/10/2017 9:58 am
Razorback Football has officially begun. The team has started to get pouring in result from kids all over the United States. Below is the recruits and mini bios for each.

Day 1 Transfers and Letters of Intent
WR-Mario Monk | Red Shirt Sophomore | 5'9" | 195lbs | 5 Star Prospect
Mario played for the University of Minnesota before deciding to transfer to Arkansas. With the new rules he will not have to set out. Monk brings amazing speed and has shown that he has very reliable hands. He was buried on the Depth Chart in Minnesota but should be an immediate impact player for the Razorbacks.

SLB-Sam Bua | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'1" | 244 lbs | 5 Star Prospect
Another kid that spent his last 3 seasons in the Big 10. He comes to Arkansas now and is projected to start right away. He's Quick, is an excellent tackler and solid in coverage and isn't afraid to pass rush. He can play the run as well. He's an all around linebacker that will become a nightmare for offensives to plan around.

CB-Ken Carroll Red Shirt Freshman | 5'11" | 213 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
Ken comes to Arkansas after de-committing from Boston College. Quick Defensive-back that may be better in Zone than Man. He's a sure tackler something that our coaches here expect. Carroll should be the anchor in the secondary. An all-state two way player at Lexington High a season ago. He helped the Minutemen capture their 1st state title in 20 years. He set a state record with 15 interceptions, he also returned 6 of those for touchdowns. Arkansas is very excited to see what Carroll can do for them.

LT-Burl Brandon | Freshman | 6'3" | 312 lbs | 5 Star Prospect
Burl originally signed on to play at Tulsa but knew when he got to campus there that it wasn't home. He remembered during his scouting that something Coach Roger Banks (Arkansas's O-Line Coach) said had him doubting not choosing the Razorback. He talked with is folks and his now with the Razorbacks. He is the 1st offensive linemen to commit to Arkansas. He excel is run blocking but can handle his own in the Pass Blocking scheme as well. He's very strong he should be a fine addition for the Razorbacks.

Day 2
RG-Henry Springs | Sophomore | 6'2" | 323 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
Henry Springs sent his transfer in and he is now the latest to join the Razorbacks. Henry has been with Miami the last few season but new with all the player realignments that he wanted to go to a different school. He will be the Razorbacks starting RG as it stands now. We say that cause the man can play any of the offensive line-men positions but doesn't like to play center at all.

QB-Jay Jones | Freshman | 6'0" | 226 lbs | 3 Star Prospect
Arkansas get their signal caller in Jay Jones. The Beaumont Texas native choose Arkansas over Baylor (where he originally wanted to play and committed to,) Texas, and Houston. He doesn't have amazing arm strength but is Accuracy is very good. He's not going to out run you either but he's your prototypical Pro-Style Quarterback.

RT-Darryl Bracero | Red Shirt Freshman | 6'4" | 322 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
The Offensive line is really coming together early in the process here. Arkansas now has 3 commits here. Bracero has all intentions of signing with Southern Cal but Arkansas made one final call to Darryl and convinced him to come to Fayetteville. The California Native was a little reserved to move down south, but after Offensive Coordinator Mahan informed him how the state of Arkansas is, being that that he is actually from San Diego, Bracero changed his mind. Darryl is strong and excels in Run Blocking, his Pass Blocking will need a little work but the team is happy to get him.

CB-Herb Herren | Freshman | 5'10" | 188 lbs | 3 Star Prospect
Herb was set to head to Kentucky to play his college career but a last minute change has him at Arkansas. He's not going to wow you with his speed but he has above average coverage skills that should prove to be effective here in Arkansas.

SS-Rick Price | Red Shirt Freshman | 6'1" | 214 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
He's not going to burn you with is speed but he is excellent in Coverage. Rick Price will be one of the best tacklers on the team if he continues at the rate the colleges expect. Very smart football player.

LG-Joey Durham Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'5" | 299 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
Joey makes it 4 on the offensive drench. Extremely strong, Great Run Blocker. He's not good in Pass Blocking Schemes but it's something that Coach Harvey says we can work around and hep the kid get better at. He's spent the last few seasons at Delaware Valley College. He was a starter there but felt that he needed to get his name out there and play for a bigger school. Arkansas took the bait and have landed another 4 star prospect with starting experience.

C-Mike Lucero | Freshman | 6'3" | 277 lbs | 4 Star Prospect
Lucero completes the Offensive line for the time being. He's strong and a descent blocker. He was set to go to Nebraska before the he the recruitment trail picked backup. Arkansas wanted to recruit hard to get this guys so they made a few calls back to his head coach in Plano. Lucero was a all-state Center in the state of Texas just a season ago. The head coach there in Plano liked what our coaches said and Lucero thinks highly of his High School Coach, and now he's a Razorback.

WR-Lowell Conte | Sophomore | 5'11" | 195 lbs | 3 Star Prospect
Lowell has been in Florida the last few seasons riding pine. He new that his chances of playing there was slim, so he thought I'm going to find a new team. Lucky for him Arkansas is still needing some quality guys. He doesn't have elite speed, but would consider that he has elite hands. He should fit in nicely as a possession receiver for the Razorbacks.

]RE-John James | Red Shirt Junior | 6'3" | 293 lbs | 3 Star Prospect
John comes to Arkansas after spending the last few seasons with Georgia Tech. He has great speed and excels in Pass Rush. He's a sure tackler as well. Depending on how the rest of the signings go, John could kick inside.

HB-Frank Linton | Redshirt Freshman | 5'10" | 225 lbs | 2 Star Prospect
Finally Arkansas gets a Running back. He's quick enough, but isn't going to break very many tackles. It's what you expect from a 2 Start guy but he should be the starter day one for Arkansas.

MLB-Shane Jasso | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'1" | 250 lbs | 2 Star Prospect
Shane Jasso, the 1st of the players that were originally committed to Arkansas. He's very quick at 250. If he as a good camp/spring, the kid could be something special. He's projected to be one of the starting Middle Linebackers in the 4-3 scheme we are planning to run here in Arkansas.

FS-David Hendricks | Red Shirt Freshman | 5'11" | 211 lbs | 2 Star Prospect
This fast defensive back spent most of his time at Linebacker in High School. Arkansas coaches are thinking that he will be better served at Free Safety. Like Jasso before him, if he has a good camp/spring He could really be special.

Day 3
MLB-Brock Lund | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'1" | 250 lbs | 2 Star Prospect
Brock will serve as the team's #2 MLB, should start as the coaches plan to run a 3-4 this season. Above average speed and excellent Man Coverage. He's not a great tackler however.

TE-Joe Lynch | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'3" | 237 lbs | 2 Star Prospect
Lynch is known for his great blocking skills. He's quick, wishing he was stronger but should make a good blocker for Arkansas for the next couple of seasons.

DT-Don Carroll | Red Shirt Freshman | 6'1" | 300lbs | 3 Star Prospect
Instant Starter for Arkansas, descent speed for a DT and about average Strength. Best quality may be is tackling ability.

LE-Dennis Hosmer | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'1" | 247 lbs | 2 Star
Hosmer is a converted LB. He will be asked to gain weight and muscle but could transition to be a solid linemen. Amazing Tackler, with good Speed/Strength combo.

WR-Charles Welch | Freshman | 6'0" | 194 lbs | 2 Star
Welch will most likely be the teams #4 WR. Great Speed, not the best hands but a good camp by help that. Perfect Depth Player.

MLB-Bart Wallace | Freshman | 6'2" | 245 lbs | 2 Star
Needs some work but will be the team's number 2 MLB. Great Speed for a LB however, sub-par in the rest of the intangibles.

HB-Michael Galindo | Red Shirt Senior | 5'11" | 212 lbs | 2 Star
Depth guy, won't get to many seasons out of him. Above average and will serve as a relief for Frank Linton.

C-Roderick James | Freshman | 6'5" | 297 lbs | 3 Star
Later commit but has some good upside. He struggles in Pass Blocking but is above average in Run Blocking.

DT-Mark Crawford | Freshman | 6'3" | 318 lbs | 2 Star
Decent Speed and Strength.

WR-John Gomez | Red Shirt Senior | 5'11" | 198 lbs | 2 Star
Gomez is an above average speedy guy that runs great routes. He will buried on the Depth Chart to start out but could explode if there is an injury or something.

HB-Chet Bauman | Red Shirt Freshman | 5'10" | 214 lbs | 1 Star
If he has a good camp this kid could be something special. We will have to wait and see. He's a speedster though.

QB-Craig Wright | Sophomore | 6'1" | 218 lbs | 2 Star
Arkansas gets commit from solid QB. Not good Arm Strength but his Accuracy is just good enough to fill in if something happens to Jones.

SLB-James Tracey | Red Shirt Junior | 6'0" | 247 lbs | 2 Star
Solid Coverage linebacker. Could see some playing time.

FS-Derek Monroe | Red Shirt Junior | 5'11" | 214 lbs | 2 Star
Speedster, perfect for Special Teams.

DT - Ronald Jones | Red Shirt Freshman | 6'2" | 277 lbs | 1 Star
More Depth on the D Line here.

SS-James Donohue | Red Shirt Freshman | 6'1" | 206 lbs | 2 Star
Best trait is is 72 FUT tackle. Descent speed for a safety.

MLB-Irvin Gregory | Sophomore | 5'11" | 242 lbs | 1 Star
Depth, needs some work but could fill in when needed.

LG-Roosevelt Partida | Freshman | 6'2" | 286 lbs | 3 Star
Previously Played Center, For Arkansas he will be moved around the O-Line as a backup.

TE-Charles McCarty | Freshman | 6'2" | 259 lbs | 1 Star
RE-Barry Coleman | RS Freshman | 6'2" | 256 lbs | 2 Star
SS-James Rodriguez | RS-Sophomore | 5'11" | 193 lbs | 1 Star
DT-Russell Stamper | Sophomore | 6'3" | 275 lbs | 1 Star
P-Donald Stowe | RS-Junior | 6'1" | 218 lbs | 4 Star
K-Charles Miller | RS-Soph | 6'0" | 200 lbs | 3 Star
LE-Steven Cockrum | RS-Senior | 6'4" | 274 lbs | 1 Star
LT-Walter Clifford | RS-Freshman | 6'4" | 312 lbs | 2 Star

Walk-Ons Signed

By Chandyo
8/01/2017 10:43 am
The Team Announced the additions of 3 Walk-Ons

FB-Rick Clayton | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'0" | 237 lbs | 1 Star
The team didn't get a commitment from a FB during the signing period. Rick Clayton decided to walk on here at Arkansas. He previous was at USC but didn't make the cut there last season and set out all of the 2016 season. He's not strong or very fast but he's an excellent blocker. He will be the teams #1 FB as it stands going into spring.

TE-Lee Kelsey | Red Shirt Sophomore | 6'5" | 267 lbs | 1 Star
Descent speed and above average hands. He was dismissed from Alcorn State following a false report. Despite his declared innocent Alcorn wanted nothing to do with him. He will attempt to rebuild his career and image here at Arkansas.

WR-Randell Cohen | Freshman | 5'11" | 197 lbs | 1 Star
Originally signed to play at Miami. Get couldn't get his academics up in time therefore lost his scholarship at Miami. He's got his grades back up and has decided to Walk-On here at Arkansas. Not very fast but has great hands.

Spring Training

By Chandyo
8/01/2017 11:05 am
Arkansas kicks off their spring game with a packed house here in Fayetteville.

Stand Outs
Walk-On WR-Randell Cohen - Has shown some great ability. He's speed is still concerning but the talent otherwise is making coaches wonder what this kid can do. (+7)

[player=2672}Roosevelt Partida[/player] - Has shown he can play any position that you put him in. he has now moved to up the Depth Chart to fill as the #2 spot at LG, RG and RT. Partida will be the starter on the Line if anyone goes down this season.

23 players stayed the same or improved during spring camp.

Disappointments:
WLB-Shane Jasso - Jasso projects as the teams #1 WLB. He have a very good spring at all. There isn't much behind him so he shouldn't lose his starting job but it's still disappointing. (-6)
FS-David Hendricks - Another projected starter. Hendricks has had a really bad camp. (-12)

26 players declined. (10 by 1, 6 by 2, 5 by 3, 1 by 5, 1 by 6, 1 by 11, 1 by 12)

2017 - Scrimmages

By Chandyo
8/01/2017 11:57 am
Army Black Knights (L 10-24)
-197 Total Yards for the Offense to the Black Knights 392.
- No real stand out in this game for the Razorbacks.
- Razorbacks only TD was on a 52 yard bomb from Merrell to Welch, 4th quarter.
- SS-James Rodriguez led the Defense in Tackles with 8.

at Arizona Wildcats (W 29-19)
- 472 Net Yards for the Razorbacks, 293 for the Wildcats
- QB-Jay Jones went 16/19 for 267 yards and a touchdown.
- WR-Lowell Conte Led the receivers with 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.
- LE-Steve Cockrum had 3 sacks in this one.

vs Navy Midshipmen (W 27-13)
- Arkansas was out gained din this one 277/419.
- Arkansas leaned more on the running game in this one. 23 rushes to 19 passes.
- HB-Frank Linton had 10 carries for -4 yards, not a stat we hope to see again.

at Arizona State Sun Devils (W 19-6)
- Total Yards: Sun Devils - 368 Razorbacks - 235
- Razorbacks only had 7 1st downs
- Razorback Defense had 4 Interceptions, and 2 Forced Fumbles, and 10 Sacks
- MLB-Bart Wallace Shines. (8 Tackls, 2 Sacks, and an interception.)

Overview:
Overall the team preformed well. Offensively they didn't put up huge numbers but did enough to stay in games. Defensively they shined a lot more than owner Chandyo expected.

"The hopes aren't real high around here. We don't expect to be a contender this season. I'm preaching that the guys just give it their all and we will be competitive. It's a long season so i want them all to stay healthy as well. I'm just being honestly with the guys and don't want to set the bar two high in Season 1." - Head Coach Larry Harvey

The Razorbacks will start the season against Army, a team they were beat by in one of these pre-season scrimmages.

Arkansas was also voted as #15 in the Preseason Coaches Poll.

Week 1 - at Army Black Knights

By Chandyo
8/04/2017 7:34 am
The Razorbacks travel to Whitney, Nevada to take on the Black Knight of Army.

When a great pre-season and the only loss of the scrimmages being to the Black Knights, the Razorbacks were looking for Revenge. Instead, the Pigs found a slaughter. Razorbacks were shut out in the 1st game of the season. A depressing 54 yard outing on offensive for Arkansas.

LOSS 0-46

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Lowell Conte (4 Receptions, 47 Yards.)
Defensive: SS-Rick Price (14 Tackles)

This is a very depressing way to start the season for the Razorbacks. Coach Harvey will look to right the ship against Ole Miss next week.

Week 2 - at Mississippi Rebels

By Chandyo
8/04/2017 7:43 am
Razorbacks head to Oxford to take on divisional rival Ole Miss.

What a difference a week makes! The Razorbacks get in the win column against a rival despite only have 5 1st downs in the game. What game from Quarterback Jay Jones. He went 18/36 for 364 yards and 5 touchdowns with only 1 pick. The Defensive unit had 4 interceptions and 13 sacks.

WIN 44-33

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Mario Monk (6 Receptions, 203 Yards, and 3 Touchdown)
Defensive: SLB-Sam Bua (7 Tackles, 1 Sacks, 1 Force Fumble)

Up Next, Arkansas gets their 1st home game against Marshall.

Week 3 - Marshall Thundering Herd

By Chandyo
8/04/2017 8:16 am
The 1st home game for the Razorbacks is against the Thundering Herd of Marshall. The Stadium is packed 72,000 strong (100%,)

Arkansas may have forgot what a touchdown is. QB-Jay Jones was sacked 12 times, had a Fumble, and threw 3 picks. Since there wasn't much of showing in this one from the Razorbacks, we reviewed the the stats through 3 games there is a few things that are concerning. HB-Frank Linton has 43 yards on 20 carries and 0 touchdown through 3 games this season. QB-Jay Jones has been sacked 28 times. Arkansas has only found the endzone 5 times this season and that was all last week.

LOSS 9-32

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Lowell Conte (9 Receptions and 94 Yards)
Defensive: CB-Ken Carroll (10 Tackles)

The season thus far has been experiencing a teeter-totter affect. This could get ugly for Arkansas this week as they are back on the road heading to Kansas this week. The Jayhawks are favored by 14.

Week 4 - at Kansas Jayhawks

By Chandyo
8/07/2017 7:19 am
This week Arkansas heads north to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the Jayhawks.

Arkansas would jump out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Kansas would response with 6 minutes left in the 1st half. The Razorbacks would find the end zone one more time before the half on a 24 yard pass from QB-Jay Jones to WR-John Gomez. The Razorback would put up a total of 463 yards in this one and despite a 0-10 second half out of Arkansas they would hang on to win this one.

WIN 20-17

GAME *****
Offensive: QB-Jay Jones (26/33, 380 Yards, 3 Touchdowns)
Defensive: CB-Ken Carroll (6 Tackles, 1 Fumble Recovery)

UP Next: Miami Hurricanes (2-2.) The Razorbacks are projected as 14 point dogs in this match up. This one could be very ugly for the Razorbacks.

"You guys are so quick to write us off. Yes, I saw the line of Miami being 14 point favorites. Games aren't won on paper. We are only 4 games into the season and you guys thing you know who will take the championship already. There is still a lot of growth left in these teams. We have had an up and down season through four games, but it only takes a few wins and we can get this train rolling. All I'm saying don't rule the Razorbacks out yet." - Head Coach Larry Harvey

Strong words from Coach Harvey, we love it but being realistic the Razorbacks don't have a chance in this one.

Week 5 - at Miami Hurricanes

By Chandyo
8/08/2017 7:39 am
Arkansas head down to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to take on the Hurricanes.

Miami did everything right in this one other than a missed field goal. Arkansas didn't have a terrible game they just couldn't find the end-zone. WR-Lowell Conte had a really good day (8 Receptions for 176 yards,) and now leads the team in receiving yards. HB-Frank Linton only had 9 carries in this but had an impressive 7 yards per carry average.

LOSS 7-27

GAME *****
Offensive: QB-Jay Jones (28/40 for 334 Yards and a Touchdown)
Defensive: WLB-Shane Jasso (15 Tackles, 1 Sack)

Despite the loss in this one, Coach Harvey remains positive: "We saw things out there today that shows us what we thought in camp is true. These kids have heart. Sure we all want to win and go compete for that championship but at the end of the day I know I can go talk to any one of my guys and ask them, did you give it your all? I know the response is YES! That's what I want here at Arkansas. That's what we are teaching them here." - Coach Harvey
