Week 16 - Syracuse Orange

By Chandyo
9/13/2017 4:35 pm
The finale for the Razorbacks. This time it's the Orange of Syracuse coming to Fayetteville.

The Orange fell behind after their 1st drive which ended in a Field Goal. It was all Razorbacks from there out. Despite a 14 point 3rd quarter from the Orange the Razorbacks would out score the Orange 20-9 in the 4th to hand on to the victory. The Razorbacks when back to the Air-Hawg offense that was featured earlier this season.

WIN 41-26

GAME *****
Offensive: QB-Jay Jones (28/53 for 532 yards, 6 Touchdowns.)
Defensive: CB-Herb Herren (3 Interceptions, 9 Tackles)

The Razorbacks finish the season with a 7-9 record. Not a finish that we had hope for but we finished strong, winning 3 of our last 4. It's going to be interesting to see if there are any big changes heading into next season. The Air-Hawg Attack worked more than the experts would have thought. QB-Jay Jones lead the team this season, and put up over 5,900 yards and threw 42 touchdown. He's the type of player that we are happy to have here in Fayetteville. WR-Mario Monk had over 1,700 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns. The future is bright.

Graduate Transfer Signing

By Chandyo

Arkansas is happy to welcome Graduate Transfer, FB-John McLean.

McLean spend last season with the National Champion Tennessee Volunteers. Where he caught 13 ***** for 224 and a Touchdown in the passing game and only allowed 1 sack on 982 plays. With only one year of eligibility the Razorbacks are hoping McLean can help with opening some lanes for the backs and add another element to the passing game. He also can bring veteran leadership and experience in a big game to motivate our younger guys.

Not a splashy move, especially after rumors of the team being interested in Defensive Tackles Andrew Allen formerly of Arizona State, and Eugene Redus formally of Ole Miss. Allen ultimately chose Michigan and Redus is going to South Bend to play for the runner-ups in the National Championship, Notre Dame. Both would have been great upgrades on the defensive line.

There is hope though, Arkansas could land a top 15 prospect during recruiting this season.

2018 Recruiting Class

By Chandyo
9/20/2017 11:36 am
Arkansas New Blood has started to arrive.

HB - Danny Cain - 5'11" | 223 lbs | 4 Star | Booker T. Washington | Miami, Florida
- Cain was a star for the Tornadoes the last two season as the starter. He racked up over 75 touchdowns on the ground and another 26 in the receiving game. He rushed for over 535 yards 3 games this past season. He is also known for his hands. He led the team in receiving yards during his Junior season for Booker T. Washington. We know Arkansas likes to run their Air Hawg Attack, Cain will be a great new weapon for Jay Jones. Welcome to the Hill Danny!

DT-David Hernandez - 6'3" | 311 lbs | 3 Star | Beatrice High | Beatrice, Nebraska
- Hernandez becomes the 2nd recruit of the 2018 calls. This DT comes Arkansas from Beatrice Nebraska. Not exact our recruiting grounds but a player that offers an immediate upgrade on the defensive line. Extremely strong and pretty quick for a 300 pounder. He is sleighed to take over the starting DT role day one.

RT-David Miller - 6'5" | 319 lbs | 2 Star | Paducah Tilghman High| Paducah, Kentucky
- David Miller becomes the 3rd recruit of this class. He has major depth to an offensive line that isn't all that great. He will most like backup in year one, but could become a starter within a season or two. He's not very strong but is an excellent blocker.

TE-Jacob Woods - 6'5" | 257 lbs | 2 Star | Lock Haven High | Lock Haven, Pennsylvania
- Woods comes to Arkansas after putting up great numbers as a TE/H-Back at Lock Haven. He's a descent blocker but excels in his pass catching and route running. He's not very fast though.

SLB-Gary Alvis - 6'0" | 241 lbs | 1 Star | Catoctin High | Thurmont, Maryland
- Alivs has led the Cougars in tackles the last 3 seasons. Wasn't highly recruited. Will be more depth here at Arkansas.

MLB-Shawn Meneses - 6'0" | 245 lbs | 1 Star | Powers Catholic | Flint, Michigan
- Shawn like Alvis led his high school team in tackles. He's great in coverage but lacks speed.

QB/HB-Arthur Faison - 6'2" | 217 lbs | 1 Star | San Diego High | San Diego, California
- Faison played Quarterback the majority of his High School career for the Cavers. Arkansas is set at QB so we see Faison playing some running back here. A little slower than you want but can break tackles.

RazorTalk returning 2020!

2020 - Off-Season

By Chandyo
1/28/2018 10:22 pm
After a couple season hiatus, the Arkansas RazorTalk has returned. We apologizes for the departure without warning but we hope to be back in full force this season with all latest news and notes about your Arkansas Razorbacks. With being said here is what we have so far:

Arkansas heads into off-season looking for two new coaches.

Quarterbacks Coach - Julius Russell decided to call it a career at the age of 54. He has served as the QB coach here at Arkansas for the last 3 seasons. He's been instrumental in the development of Jay Jones.

Roberto Loring - The Razorbacks have agree to terms with Loring to be the team's new Quarterbacks coach. Loring previous served as the Tennessee Volunteers QB coach. He was not resigned. He's only 43 and should be a solid replacement to Russell.

Receivers Coach - Francisco Collins also decided to end his coaching career. He's going to be a big lost for the Razorbacks.

Grad Transfers
CB-Lawrence Alston - The Razorbacks will only get one year out of Alston. Lawrence to to Fayetteville from the University of California. He lacks speed but is solid in coverage. He will add depth to the secondary. Don't be shocked if you see him spend some time at safety. He has 185 tackles in the last 3 seasons. he has a 46% catch allowed rating. He has appeared in 44 games making 30 starts in those 3 seasons.

Arkansas coaches were in talks with a few other players however they chose to sign elsewhere.

The Focus now will shift to the NCAA Draft. There are some holes to fill so we will just have to wait and see what the staff can do.

Signing Day Moves

Tyler Bartlett | WR | 6'1" | 198lbs | Oxford, MS | VOL:8
- Not a sexy pick here but a safe one. Arkansas needed some depth at WR. They get Tyler Bartlett out of Ole Miss's backyard. He has above average hands a little slower than wanted but is a big bodied receiver. Looks to be slotted in at the #2 spot.

Michael Raymer | RG | 6'5" | 316bs | Los Angles, CA | VOL:12
- Many teams pasted on Raymer but Arkansas really wanted him. He's an excellent Run Blocker already, needs a little work on his Pass Blocking. Is strength is a little low but useable. Should slot in as the #2 RT or/and RT for now.

Joseph Long | FS | 6'1" | 206lbs | Madison, WI | VOL:14
- Another safe pick but Long has elite speed. Coverage skills are a little concerning but should take over as the #1 FS.

Nicholas Ortiz | LE | 6'3" | 276lbs | Jackson, TN | VOL:70
- A good camp could elevate Ortiz. He has great strength lacks speed however.

Archie Headley | WR | 5'10" | 222lbs | Anthony, KS | VOL:92
- Camp fodder, won't make team unless he has an amazing camp. His speed is a concern.

Harold Colson | MLB | 6'0" | 230lbs | Indianapolis, IN| VOL:38
- Auto Picked, won't make team.

Lee Cuevas | TE | 6'3" | 269lbs | Salt Lake City, UT| VOL:92
- Another Auto Pick. Won't Make team unless he boom in camp.

The class isn't great. Signing day Expert Garrok had this to say:

University of Arkansas:
"Arkansas made it a priority to add some tools to QB Jay Jones' tool box as they welcome 3 new receivers to take the pressure off Mario Monk. If may be enough to get them over the hump in the very competitive SEC West, where 1 more win would have had the hogs in the Bowl season. Grade: D+ Commish's Grade: D"

Arkansas draws National Champion runner-ups in Week 1.

Arkansas played great in this one. Holding tight with the Tigers. If you look at the Statistical charts the team matched each other pretty well. Ultimately the Razorbacks were able to pull off the upset.

WIN 23-20

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Mario Monk (7 reception, 100 yards)
Defensive: CB-Ken Carroll (7 Tackles, 2 Interceptions.)

Great start to the season for the Razorbacks. Up Next the Volunteers.

2020 | Week 2 | AWAY | Tennessee Volunteers

By Chandyo
2/21/2018 10:14 am
Arkansas goes on the road for the 1st time this season.

Tennessee was just way better than Arkansas in this one. Arkansas would get on the board 1st with a field goal but that would be the only time they would see the lead. The Volunteers put up an amazing 600 yards of total offense. Arkansas just didn't have the answers.

LOSS 6-40

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Tyler Bartlett (6 Receptions, 91 yards)
Defensive: WLB-Shane Jasso (11 Tackles, 1 Sack)

After a great start this one puts all the guys back to a level state of mind.

2020 | Week 3 | HOME | Mississippi Rebels

By Chandyo
2/21/2018 10:23 am
Division Rivalry here as Arkansas welcomes in the Rebels.

The Rebels get off to a hot start scoring 14 unanswered. The it was Arkansas turn as they put up 13 unanswered then added 14 more unanswered in the 3rd quarter. However, Arkansas would lose control in the 4th as Mississippi put up 16 unanswered themselves to get the victory. The game winning Field Goal was kicked at 48 seconds left in the game.

LOSS 27-30

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Mario Monk (9 Receptions, 142 yards)
Defensive: CB-Ken Carroll (9 Tackles, 1 Interception)

CB-Ken Carroll has started the season strong as he has 4 picks on the year, 2 in week 1, 1 last week and 1 this week. He also leads the team in tackles. If he continues this pace he could be in for some big time awards.

2020 | Week 4 | AWAY | Alabama Crimson Tide

By Chandyo
2/26/2018 11:09 am
This week its Arkansas heading to Tuscaloosa to take on the Crimson Tide.

Both Teams put up over 400 yards total offense. HB-Danny Cain had a good outing rushing for 123 yards on 24 carries.

WIN 54-28

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Lowell Conte (9 Receptions, 160 yards, 1 Touchdown)
Defensive: CB-Ken Carroll (7 Tackles, 4 Interceptions)

2020 | Week 5 | AWAY | LSU Tigers

By Chandyo

The Razorbacks on on the road this week to Baton Rouge, to take on Divisional Rival, LSU.

Arkansas DT-David Hernandez was able to get to LSU'sTimothy Soliea to get the 1st points of the game. The Razorback would hold LSU scoreless in the 1st and 3rd quarters. LSU try to mount a comeback in the 4th but Arkansas would hold on. CB-Ken Carroll got 2 more picks in this game. That brings the Arkansas Corner to 10 INTs on the season in just 5 games.

WIN 26-15

GAME *****
Offensive: WR-Mario Monk (6 Receptions, 116 yards)
Defensive: RE-John James (3 Sacks, 4 Tackles)

The Razorbacks set at 3-2 and in 2nd in the SEC West. Top team Mississippi Rebels are also 3-2 but have the tie breaker right now. Both LSU and Alabama are struggling this season so far. Up Next it's the 2-3 Miami Hurricanes. They are favored to beat the Razorbacks by 5.
