12 Aug 2017 | West Point, NY - Army's second scrimmage was set up on the Black Knight's side to be more of the traditional scrimmage than the first game. "We definitely wanted to split the 1st team/2nd team time, down the middle.", said Defensive Coord. George Nix. "We really wanted to concentrate on getting everyone on the roster some playing time and work some game-like conditioning into camp."
TENNESSEE 34 ARMY 27"It looked like Tennessee was in line with the same plan, which gives us some serious cause for concern.", said Fran Alvarez. "They ran all over our 1st team defense there with Albert Hoffman and really, all of their RB's...it was pretty pathetic!"
Offense: Projected back-up QB Chris Carter got his first reps of the year and that wasn't great, either. Carter 16/26 3TD's and 3 Int's in the second half, when Tennessee was likely rotating in many of their 2nd string defensive players.
The running game still did nothing to rave about. Projected starter Andy Davidson (precautionary/ankle) did not play. Mike Hund, Darnell Woolfork and FB Allen Wallace combined for a 2.77yds per carry and 0 TD's. Ahmad Bradshaw had a mention before heading to the shower, "There is really nothing we did well today." "We are going to need to get better focus when we get out here, between the lines." "We had a good week of practice, but it just didn't show tonight."
Defense: Aside from the three sacks registered by Cole Christianson, Domingo Bruno and Robert Connor, the defense more or less looked like it took the night off. The first team defense giving up TD's on four of the Vols' first 7 possessions. "It felt like our Defense was on the field the entire 1st half!" - CB Max Regan "They just kept moving the chains!" 3 of Tennessee's 4 TD drives were 7 plays or more, with the 4th one taking 5 plays, all in the first half.
M*A*S*H* Unit - 6 Total Injuries: 2 Probable (TE, CB), 3 Questionable (LT, RT, DT) 1 Doubtful (CB) RB Andy Davidson will return for Scrimmage III but on very limited basis.
Notes: By the end of the scrimmage, both teams were fairly even on total yardage for the game BK458/Vols468. Francisco Wrenn had a monster game with 5 catches for 197y/2TD and Buck Armstrong, considered to be a "flyer" by many pundits, had a good showing with 5 catches for 70y and a score. K Carl Lopp 2/2 FG 3/3 XP's
