ARMY PREPARES FOR THE OFF-SEASON BY MAKING THREE CUTSFollowing an absolute let-down of a season, the Army-Brass have started cleaning house, beginning with the roster first. Two of the cuts are of no big surprise, but fan-favorite "Gro-Lo" or Grover Lopez was also let go as Sammy Welch prepares for the upcoming signing period.
"There's a lot of work to do!", said a very tired looking Sammy Welch. "We clearly had a fall-off and our staff is working day and night to come up with a plan to get back to winning."
The Black Knights posted a 6-9-1 record and missed the bowl season just one year removed from making the National Championship game.
When asked what area was the main focus Welch had this to say, "Clearly our pass defense is alarmingly bad and we have got to stem the tide." "When you play in the Indy conference you are going up against fierce pass-attacks for 6 games out of the year, so you expect to see some inflated numbers." "But outside of the conference, we just got smoked!" Clemson, Miami, Syracuse, Ohio State and Michigan all scored more than 30 points against us and a couple of those were 40-plus!!" "Clemson just scored on us again, like 5 minutes ago!"
The other two players to leave at this point are due to graduation, DT David Morin and LG Gregory Holton. "We'll miss those guys and wish them the best." "David is going to head off to OCS next week and I think Greg may transfer and get another year of play in with another team."
It remains to be seen if there will be any other players let go, but it's clear that the coaching staff and front office are busy at it and the 2019 season isn't even officially over.
