October 25, 2020 | Seattle, WA - A gametime decision found RS Freshman Jimmy Miller starting in his first game ever, at the college level. The 6'2", 220lb quarterback played like a freshman in his first game - 19/41 278y, 2 TD's, 3 Int's.

It was the Huskies ground-game that shined brightly in this game, the Huskies went to the ground for 43 rushes and 197y. Myles Gaskin had the lion's share, going 23/123 1TD.

Defensively the Knights got to Ronald Tiffany for 4 sacks, with John Voit registering 3 of those. Max Regan did intercept one pass.

ARMY TOPS STANFORD THEN DROPS BACK TO .500 WITH LOSS AT OHIO STATE

November 1, 2020 | West Point NY - With 6 games left on the schedule the Army Black Knights are at a point where they MUST figure out who they're going to be. The Knights have really just 2 quality wins so far and have USC, Cal, Navy, Oregon, Notre Dame and Tennessee left on the schedule. 5 of those 6 games will be under the eyes of the home fans at Michie Stadium. Can the Black Knights get up, off the turf?

The offense will be led by Ahmad Bradshaw who is now back and healthy after missing 3 weeks. He did return against Ohio St. but was not at 100%. But just as Bradshaw returns, Davidson is now unavailable for up to 3 weeks with a neck injury.

But more at issue is the Knights defense which has been the known achilles heel for a season and a half. For Army to be competitive down the stretch the performance on this side of the ball is going to have to elevate.

Also under the microscope, is the coaching staff. There have been playcalling blunders on more than one occasion. It will be interesting to see what happens as Army could easily find themselves in the cellar of their division before it is all said and done.

BRADSHAW RETURNS - KNIGHTS 3 - 0 SINCE | INJURIES ARE MOUNTING

Coach Ellis was sitting in the hotel lobby going over gamenotes/plans as the Black knights prepare for a crucial match-up in Eugene with the Oregon Ducks. The two teams have faced each other twice in the past, once in 2017 and again in 2018 with Army winning both.

Ellis was short for comment as usual, but in summary, he said he was pleased with the team's progress over the past 3 games. Those 3 games were all home-wins over USC, Cal and Navy. In particular Ellis was very pleased with how the defense is playing better and together.

The coach did also voice some concern over the health of the roster and with good reason. The Black Knights will have 7 starters out of the game against Oregon. 5 of those on defense, alone.

He also spoke of the importance of getting out of Eugene with a win, because one loss at this point in the season could be the difference of post-season or going home.

Army will finish with 2 more home games, Dec 13th vs Notre Dame and Dec 20th a rematch of the 2018 National Championship game with the Tennessee Volunteers.

BLACK KNIGHTS ROLL THE DUCKS - LOSE DAVIDSON FOR THE YEAR

It was a much needed road-win on a long trip to the west coast, but it came at very big cost. Army beat Oregon 26-9 on Sunday night but lost potential All-American running back, Andy Davidson for the year. Davidson had come out of the game in the 2nd quarter but pressured the coaching staff to put him back in in the 4th quarter with the Knights comfortably in front, 23-9.

Davidson's knee was scoped this morning and doctor's feel that he won't need surgery.

The defense came on strong in the second half, holding the Ducks scoreless along with intercepting Richard Heater 3 times (4 total for the game) Ed Buckley also recorded 2 sacks with McCants, Christiansen and McLean each getting 1 apiece. Overall Army's defense held Oregon to just 318 yards of total offense, 99 rush, 219 passing.

IRISH CONTINUE DOMINANCE OF THE KNIGHTS - STOP 4 GAME WIN STREAK

Army's chances of making a post season bowl game took a huge hit last night, as conference foe, Notre Dame came to Michie Stadium and throttled the Knights, 48-21.

Behind the tandem attack at quarterback, Leslie Jacques and Brandon Wimbush combined for 6 touchdown passes and 446 yards through the air. And if that wasn't enough, the Irish blasted Army's defense with 146 yards rushing with Dexter Williams getting 92 of those on 19 carries.

The loss puts Army's bid for a bowl on the line, next against 2-time National Champion, Tennessee. The Black Knights will host the Volunteers in a must-win to move to the post season.

Next up: Tennessee (12-3, 4-2) Last: W @ Florida 19-7

VEGAS: Tennessee - 6

ARMY COUCHED FOR THE 2ND STRAIGHT YEAR - LOSE TO TENNESSEE

With 6:17 remaining in the game and trailing 21-13, Ahmad Bradshaw had the hopes of 24,000-plus being vocalized in a very loud Michie Stadium. The red-shirt senior found Sean Eckert on a 9 yard strike. Needing a 2pt extra point to tie the game, Bradshaw's next throw toward Eckert was intercepted by All-American Bill Wu.

On the games very next play you could hear the air in the stadium exit like air from a balloon. Heisman finalist, Jonathan Demartini threw a 75 yard bomb to Gary Teegarden that pretty much ended Army's season.

Army's 0-2 finish to the #1 and #3 teams in the nation were proof to fans and the rest of the NCAA that Army had no business qualifying for the post-season. "We have a lot of work to do to get up to the caliber of teams like Notre Dame and Tennessee." Coach Matt Ellis was clearly pessimistic after the game. "I won't be surprised if you see those two face off in the Championship again!"

CATCHING UP WITH THE CHANGES IN ARMY FOOTBALL

Coaching

Head Coach Matt Ellis departed Army and headed right to a conference enemy. Abrupt and unexpected. This opened up the opportunity for receivers coach, George Pounds to move up and take the reins of the Black Knights. George has been with the team since its inception in 2017 and has helped the Army offense to compete as one of the top passing teams in all of the NCAA.

Graduation and Transfers

CHRIS CARTER - QB
It was a sad way for the Sr. to go out; with the Black Knights failing to make the post-season in his final year of eligibility at Army. Chris Carter will be missed at Army and forever remembered as the guy who led the Black Knights to the National Championship game in 2018. Chris will finish post graduate studies at the the University of California where he will participate on the Bears' football team.

Career Stats (4 seasons):
Regular Season: 520/961 8,101y 60 TD's 34 Int 88.37 QBR
Post Season (2018): 101/178 1,639y 12 TD's 5 Int 98.5 QBR

MIKE REYNOLDS - CB, SS, LB
Mike's presence and leadership will be a huge vacuum in the Knights locker room for some time. Reynold's was voted team captain in all 4 of his seasons at Army. He will move on for post-graduate studies at UCLA and finish his final year of eligibility helping lead the Bruins' defense.

Career Stats (4 seasons):
Regular Season: 208 Tackles 2 Sacks 8 Hurries 41 Knockdowns 40.8 Alld% 13 Int's (1 Int-TD)
Post Season (2018): 14 Tackles 30.8 Alld% 1 Int

DARNELL WOOLFOLK - RB
Darnell spent most of his Army career backing up starting running back, Andy Davidson at running back. Woolfolk graduated in the top 10 of his senior class and will move on to serve in the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard" in Washington, D.C.

Career Stats (4 seasons):
Regular Season: 319 car 1,312y 4.1avg 9 TD's
42 catches 523y 12.5avg 4TD's
Post Season (2018): 26 car 85y 3.3avg 1TD
