Bruins Wide Reciever Clarence Rodgers on National Signing Day

Clarence Rodgers from Colony HS in Ontario, California announced that he is signing a National Letter of Intent to play football at UCLA. He announced the decision at a National Signing Day Ceremony at his high school.

Rodgers was originally committed to Oregon, but he de-committed after speaking with his family who wanted him to stay close to home. Ultimately, the Bruins beat out Southern Cal to sign Rodgers and it may have been influenced by the fact that Reid Axtell signed with the Trojans. Axtell might want to lend Rodgers the Antelope Valley HS band because they were heard playing “Sons of Westwood” after Axtell committed to Southern Cal.

Day 4 Brings More Defensive backfield Help

It seemed like UCLA Football was done announcing signees for the evening, but fifteen minutes after we published our recap, the Bruins announced that Howard Hearns’s National Letter of Intent had been received, officially making the St. John Bosco product a Bruin.

Hearns originally committed to UCLA back in May. At the time of his commitment, Hearns was the third safety in the 2018 recruiting class. However, due to a suspicious AP Chemistry Grade
and other factors of the recruiting cycle, Hearns is currently the only safety in the recruiting class as William Gonzales and Jesse James both decommitted before today.

When he committed, Hearns was ranked as the 23rd best safety in the country by 247Sports, but, as of tonight, his ranking has improved a little and he is now ranked as the 21st best safety in the country by 247Sports.

Welcome to Westwood, Howard!

Go Bruins!!!

Day #5 Bring Bruins Nation a Quarterback

After missing on more highly rated quarterback recruits like Robert Endicott, Manuel Anderson and Johnnie Montes the Bruins finally added a quarterback to the 2024 recruiting class. Michael Harley Jr, rated 2-stars by Rivals and Scout, announced via twitter Tuesday afternoon that he would play his college football in Westwood.

Harley received a scholarship offer from UCLA on, the same day he made his original commitment to play for the BYU Cougars. Harley camped with the Bruins in the summer, shortly before receiving the UCLA offer. He had remained committed to the Cougars until his announcement on Tuesday. The QB is originally from Newton, MA, where he played high school ball before transferring to West Orange High School in Florida for his upcoming senior season.

Harley is an important addition for future depth and to the competition for the starting spot in 2024, as the Bruins must begin to plan for what appears to be a very tough division and season.

Day 6 Lands another Wide Receiver

UCLA Bruins their staff finish up recruiting, the addition as 3-star WR John Morgan has committed to the Bruins. Hurt is a 6’0”, 175-lb senior from Servite HS in Anaheim, who had been committed to Utah until a few days ago when he received an offer from UCLA.

Morgan announced his decision on Twitter.

Morgan appears to be an elusive receiver in his senior season, he looks fast, but he also has the size to be able to bust through a double-team and get downfield to make the catch.

Final Day Brings a Free Safety

On the final day, the UCLA picked up the player who projects to be their future enforcer for the Bruin defense, as El Paso safety Todd Pfefferl announced his commitment to UCLA.

Listed at 6-foot- and 213 pounds, Pfeffer is a devastatingly vicious hitter who should help provide the Bruin defense with the kind of physical edge it has sorely lacked.

Pfeffer profiles as a player best used coming downhill to make plays on the ball and ballcarriers. That would seem to nicely complement the style of fellow UCLA safety commit Howard Hearns.

With Pfeffer now in hand, UCLA’s defensive backs class in the 2024 cycle looks to be just about set.
