Re: Boomer Sooner

The Sooners completed the sweep of a 3 game home stand last night in Norman in a squeaker over the Michigan Wolverines in front of 74,038 OU faithful.

Sooners QB Austin Kendall scattered 302 yds passing between 5 different receivers going 13/27 with 2 RD's and 1 INT. WR Bobby Buckner accounted for 137 of those yds to lead that group.

OU used the ground and pound game plan against Michigan running the ball 41 times for 204 yds... WR/RB/KR Marquis Brown led all rushers with 120 yds on 25 carries. RB Jeff Stewart added another 76 yds on 9 carries.

The 1st half looked like it was going to be a long night for Michigan as the Sooners hit intermission with a 23-10 lead and all the momentum... but to the Wolverines credit they shut down Oklahoma in the 2nd half holding them to a FG while adding 14 more points to their total.
That got Head coach Lincoln Riley's attention.. "Man, I don't see how that team only has 1 win." said Riley. "They're as good as anybody we've played so far this season... and better than some of them." "That game could have gone either way." "**** of an effort by those young men."

Next: Sooners travel to Athens Georgia to take on the Bulldogs

The Oklahoma Sooners won their 4th straight in Athens Georgia last night defeating the Georgia Bulldogs 27-18. The Sooners continue to "win ugly" as they say, getting little help from the QB position and last nights game was no different.
In fact if you just looked at the team stats after the game without watching it, you'd probably think the Bulldogs had won handily... They had 408 total yd to OU's 158. Georgia had 373 yds passing to Oklahoma's 75. And the Bulldogs had 19 1st downs to OU's 6. All very good stats.

But the story in this game was the OU defense. 9 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception.
The INT and 1 of the fumble recoveries resulted in 14 points that could be attributed to the defense. DT Frank Connolly had 6 sacks that included a sack fumble which he picked up and ran to the Bulldog 9 yd line, resulting in a TD on the next play.
https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/202#37534
The INT came early in the 1st qtr when CB Trey Brown picked off backup QB Lynn Fry at the UGA 38 and brought it back to the 3yd line.
https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/202#37434
To his credit Fry hustled to make the tackle and deny Brown the pick six.

The offense on the other hand was, for lack of a better word...pathetic
QB Austin Kendall was 9/24 for 88yds and 0 TD's plus he fumbled once and UGA recovered.
That all added up to a QB rating of 13.89.... yep, 13 freakin 89! Those kinda numbers will turn your *** into bench polish.
I think some changes are about to be made in Sooner land. Coach Riley didn't want to talk about his QB play after a win... but he was clearly concerned with this latest effort.

That's not to take anything away from Georgia either... their defense is solid. And their QB Nicholas Smitherman had an outstanding game..he threw for 414 yds and had 3 different receivers at or over 100 yds.
I'd say OU was lucky to get out of Georgia with that W.

The Sooners got some payback in a big way for their earlier loss in the Red River Showdown part 1 as they took out the whoopin stick and beat down their arch rival Texas Longhorns 48-9 in version 2 of this storied rivalry.
This means the "Gold Hat"will return to the campus of OU for safe keeping until at least next season.

OU racked up 403 yds of total offense and held Texas to just 196 total yds
OU Head Coach Lincoln Riley started senior QB Werner Washburn in this game because of the smothering, blitzing defense utilized by Texas. He figured Washburn could probably handle that pressure a little bit better than freshman QB Austin Kendall.... and he was right.
Washburn carved up the Texas D like a ground roasted hog. 4TD's 289 yds and only 1 sack.
Good enough for a 114.04 QB rating. WR Abdul Adamas had a big night with 7 rec for 142 yds and 3 TD's..The longest being a 61 yd bomb.
https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/212#39387

Oklahomas defense continues to impress... especially at home as they got after Texas QB Jose Griffin sacking him 14 times and intercepting the ball 3 times as well as forcing 3 fumbles...one of which they recovered. The Sooner defense totally dominated this game. DE John Page had 6 tackles and 4 sacks, DE Jack Robinson had 5 tackles and 4 sacks and a FF. DE William Banuelos had 3 tackles and 3 sacks. LB Caleb Kelly's ankle continues to get better.. he had 4 tackles and 2 sacks.

If OU can get any kind of help from the QB position they will be in the hunt for a shot at a bowl game come seasons end. But they must find some consistency on that side of the ball.
And they still have to face Tennessee who sits at 9-1 as well as Big 12 rival Oklahoma State at their house. And I know they're chompin at the bit.

Next up... The Scarlet Knights of Rutgers!

It was a cold and rainy night in Piscataway New Jersey last night as the Oklahoma Sooners took on the University of Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Sooners wound up winning the game 18-15, but one thing is abundantly clear... this team is night and day different on the road than they are at home.
They play loose and confidant at home and on the road the play conservative and seem almost timid at times.... whatever the problem is they need to get it fixed. They're going to make an old man out of the youngest coach in the NCAA.

Offensively the QB position continues to struggle...hovering at or just below the 50% comp percentage mark. That's not gonna get it done. The 2 QB's combined went 16/38 and 225 yds Washburn threw 2 TD passes but was sacked 4 times and threw 1 INT. QB Austin Kendall played well going 6 for 10 before leaving the game with an undisclosed injury.
WR Abdul Adams had yet another solid game grabbing 3 rec for 87 yds and a TD. WR Cyril Quiroz also had a TD hauling in 4 passes for 55 yds.

The Sooner defense looked hampered by the off going but still managed to sack Rutgers QB Thomas Wilson 4 times and Intercepted him once. The defense also forced 4 fumbles but only came away with 1 of those.

Oklahoma better go back home and get some rest...next up

Something Wicked, this way comes...

After scouting the Vols and watching the beat down they handed UCLA, there is still hope for the Sooners in this game....

1. I hope OU plays the best game they've played all season...offense and defense.
2. I hope Tenn. is still tired from running up 800+ yds of offense in their last game.
3. I hope the Vols head coach gave them the week off to rest up.
4. I hope they get a case of the funky **** after their team meal.
5. I hope this smelly hoodoo bag I bought a couple years ago from an old black dude in New Orleans outside the Maison Dupuy Hotel still has some gris gris left in it.
6. I hope Jonathan DeMartini's girlfriend breaks up with him via text right before the game.

Oh well, that's about it...seems reasonable to me. But we all know the saying: Hope in one hand and $#@% in the other... :)

No excuses here though..we'll show up, give em what we've got, and see how we stack up.
Good luck Blackflys! Here's hopin to no injuries!

If Army can lose to a winless team and follow it up by beating two teams with a combined 18-1 record? You got this, BP!

On a cool, clear night in Norman Oklahoma, in front of nearly 74,000 fans, The # 1 team in the nation showed the OU faithful why they deserved that title.
It was a perfect night for football but when the dust settled and the clock hit all zeroes the scoreboard told the tale....Volunteers of Tennessee 24, the Oklahoma Sooners 3.

The Sooners defense managed to slow down the high powered Vols offense holding them to under 300 yds passing...they just couldn't get any help at all from their own offense. Out of 12 drives, 7 of those were 3 and outs and an 8 play drive ended with a missed FG, and another 9 play drive ended on downs at the Vols 30... that puts a lot of pressure on a defense.

The bright spot of the game for the Sooners was from OU's "Mr Do It All" Marquis Brown... the RB/WR/KR carried the offense in this game rolling up 142 yds on 26 carries. 7 of those carries went for 10 yds or more with the longest going 12. He also had 48 return yds.

The defense continued to play well, they just stayed on the field too long against, in my opinion, the best team in this league. They did well against the Vols running game holding Shackleford to 37 yds on 12 carries. Tenn.QB Jonathan DeMartini went 18/31 for 300 yds and 2 TD.
The Sooners did manage to get an INT as OU LB Levi Draper snagged one in the endzone to save a TD in the 4th qtr.
Vols WR's Gary Teegarden and William Brock each contributed 96 yards to Tenn total yardage.

Not even gonna mention the Sooners QB situation.

Next up... OU travels to take on Kentucky.

Well, after a brief hiatus due to a pain in the *** named Harvey, The Sooners media center(located in Louisiana....weird, I know) is back to 100%. And just in time for the big one.

The Oklahoma Sooners made the short bus trip to Stillwater Oklahoma and Boone Pickens Stadium where nearly 60,000 fans gathered to witness Bedlam II on a crisp cool Friday night!

The OU squad faced a daunting task..they were 11 point underdogs playing their BIG 12 conference champions, and facing their in state rivals who they embarrassed earlier this season in Bedlam 1...to say it was a hostile environment would be a huge understatement.

But that's the thing about in state rivals....all that other **** doesn't matter..this is brother against brother while mama ain't home...somebodys gettin an *** whoopin
And that is in no way any disrespect to OSU.. They're my second favorite team in this conference. Eyeballll is one of the best owner/coaches in this entire game, and I hope they beat everybody not named OU... This is a great rivalry and I look forward to our games in the future.

The teams went back and forth in the 1st half with the Cowboys K Landon Armijo missing two FG and losing a fumble at their own 24 yd line in the 1st qtr...OU could only gain a FG off of the TO and 2 other drives were 3 and outs.
OSU scored 2 TD's in the 2nd qtr while Oklahoma used their ground and pound running game to score TD early in the 2nd...they added a FG later and the score at the half was 14-13 OSU.

It stayed close in the 3rd and at 9:59 left in the qtr OSU QB Randy Williams hit RB Terry Pauli at the OSU 25...https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/gamecenter/view/316#58865

But that would be about it for the Cowboys on this night as the dudes from up the road would score 2 TD's in that qtr too...plus 2 more in the 4th qtr to shock the Big 12 conference champion Cowboys for the second time this season and take home the Bedlam Bell trophy.

WR/RB Marquis Brown and WR Cyril Quiroz did the bulk of the work for OU... and redshirt freshman QB Austin Kendall had his second decent game in a row going 10/20 and 182 yds with 3 TD's and 0 INT's or sacks.

Its been a fun 1st season for me...I laughed, I cried...I farted out loud. :)
Congratulations to eyeballll and the Cowboys on winning the Big 12 Conference Championship in season 1 of the NCAA league. And we wish them Good luck in their bowl games...unless they play OU and it could happen...? I bet eyeballll would love another shot at that one. :)

And good luck to all the teams who made it to the BCS!
