Sorry for the lack of write-ups lately...RL plus holidays are taking up more time than usual. I'm hoping to resume the Boomer Sooner sports page after Christmas.

Next 5 games will be make or break for the Sooners...

After unusually high number of injuries in the last 2 seasons the Sooners have fired their strength and conditioning coach and brought in a neck and wing man....

Orange Invade Memorial Field

OU is for all intents and purposes already in "must win" mode starting with this game against a very tough Syracuse team who have found new life after turning over the offense to Fr QB Doug Hemphill.
Sooner QB Austin Kendall has played better this season but is still throwing way too many INT's.

Winner will still have a shot at a playoff spot while the loser can pretty much start recruiting.

Should be a good ol fashioned slobber knocker in Norman!

In a game where both teams desperately needed a win to stay in the hunt for a bowl invitation, the Oklahoma Sooners took advantage of 7 INT's by Syracuse QB Doug Hemphill, and defeated the Orange 39-9 last night in Norman.

The win moves OU to 6-6 and into 2nd place in the Big 12 conference and also keeps their slim bowl hopes alive.

The Sooners are slowly getting injured players back on the field and it showed last night especially on defense as OU held the Orangemen scoreless in the 2nd half. The defense also had 6 sacks to go along with their 7 INTs.

FS Robbie Barnes grabbed 4 of those INT's and also grabbed a game ball for his efforts.
DE Jack Robinson, who's been hampered all season with knee and foot injuries had 4 sacks and also got a game ball.

The Sooners run game also perked up a little last night, and could arguably be attributed to the return of starting center Ray Williams who hasn't played since the 1st qtr of gm 4 against Utah.
RB Jeff Stewart had 93 yds on 17 carries for a 5.47 avg
WR's Cyril Quiroz and Abdul Adams both had 100 yd games with Quiroz getting 199 yds on 8 rec and Adams hauling in 8 passes for 104 yds on the night.

Sooners QB is still fighting the INT bug himself throwing 2 more last night which now has him with more picks than TD passes this season which, according to coach Lincoln Riley "MUST" get fixed in a hurry for Oklahoma to have any bowl aspirations.

Oklahoma has revoked the scholarships of 6 players this offseason In anticipation of the upcoming National Signing Day.
Sooners signed 1 transfer... CB Jack Thomas
The Sooners also changed LB Caleb Kelly from a partial scholarship to a full scholarship.

The list of players leaving are:

RG Edward Balser (Has transferred to Stanford)
MLB Sung Frank
LDE Wayne Gilliam
QB Craig Harris
DT Danny Herring
C Ben Wages

The Sooners find themselves woefully lacking at the LB position and have an ongoing nationwide search to get some help at that position.

Head coach Lincoln Riley says the talent is out there, they just need to get em signed up.

2020 National Signing Day

The Oklahoma Sooners signed their 1st recruit yesterday and it is LB/DE Addison Gumbs out of Stellar Prep HS in Hayward California....

Early enrollee ... ranked as the No. 65 overall player in the country by Rivals, No. 166 by 247Sports, No. 156 by Scout and No. 247 by ESPN ... ranked No. 7 among outside linebackers by Rivals, No. 9 by Scout and No. 16 by ESPN ... ranked by 247Sports as the No. 11 weak-side defensive end in the nation ... touted as the No. 10 player in the state of California by Rivals, No. 19 by 247Sports and No. 24 by ESPN ... U.S. Army All-American ... invited to the finals of The Opening ... made 74 tackles (23.0 sacks) and forced two fumbles as a senior ... chose OU over Louisville, Texas A&M, USC, Washington and others.

Coach Lincoln Riley said Gumbs will play primarily at WLB, but can easily move in as a DE if the need arises.
"We're very pleased to get Addison signed". "He's a prototype outside LB with decent speed and and great burst." "He'll bring the lumber with him too, and will be a pain in the *** to anyone coming across the middle." "And he can rush the passer too"
"His only flaw is he doesn't wrap up on his tackling...so far he's been able to get by with just knocking the ball carrier down...that won't work very well at this level." Fortunately we have some pretty good coaches who will be able to help him with that."
