In a game where both teams desperately needed a win to stay in the hunt for a bowl invitation, the Oklahoma Sooners took advantage of 7 INT's by Syracuse QB Doug Hemphill, and defeated the Orange 39-9 last night in Norman.
The win moves OU to 6-6 and into 2nd place in the Big 12 conference and also keeps their slim bowl hopes alive.
The Sooners are slowly getting injured players back on the field and it showed last night especially on defense as OU held the Orangemen scoreless in the 2nd half. The defense also had 6 sacks to go along with their 7 INTs.
FS Robbie Barnes grabbed 4 of those INT's and also grabbed a game ball for his efforts.
DE Jack Robinson, who's been hampered all season with knee and foot injuries had 4 sacks and also got a game ball.
The Sooners run game also perked up a little last night, and could arguably be attributed to the return of starting center Ray Williams who hasn't played since the 1st qtr of gm 4 against Utah.
RB Jeff Stewart had 93 yds on 17 carries for a 5.47 avg
WR's Cyril Quiroz and Abdul Adams both had 100 yd games with Quiroz getting 199 yds on 8 rec and Adams hauling in 8 passes for 104 yds on the night.
Sooners QB is still fighting the INT bug himself throwing 2 more last night which now has him with more picks than TD passes this season which, according to coach Lincoln Riley "MUST" get fixed in a hurry for Oklahoma to have any bowl aspirations.
