Sooners sit at 2-0 after 35-0 win over StanfordThe Oklahoma Sooners improved their record to 2-0 in this young season by rolling over the Stanford Cardinal last night at a hot Memorial Stadium in Norman with 62,502 fans in attendance.
And for the 2nd game in a row, the defense was the bright spot for the Sooners, with an impressive shutout.
Meanwhile the OU offense seemed to sputter once again in the red zone. Ordinarily you'd think a coach would be pleased with his offense putting up 35 points but head coach Lincoln Riley was anything but pleased....
"Standing there on the sidelines watching that ****..It was the same feeling I have when we're losing a game.... not good." "4 times we get in the red zone and get 1 TD out of it. We end up with 9 points instead of 21." "We've got to change things up a bit on the play calling in the red zone and in our red zone game planning... before it jumps up and bites us."Riley's mood greatly improved when asked about his defense....
" They looked awesome" "I think we held em to -4 yds rushing and 109 total for the game with the shutout." 5 sacks and 2 picks" "I don't think we even let em in the red zone, so they had a great game"The stats for that defense include:DB Trey Brown 4 tackles, 1 knockdown with 2 INT's
DE John Page... 5 tackles,2 sacks, 5 hurries
DT Frank Connolly.... 3 tackles,2 sacks, 4 hurries
LB Caleb Kelly.... 2 tackles,1 sack, 3 hurries
Offensive Stats:QB Austin Kendall... 22/37 366yds 1 TD and 1 INT
RB Jeff Stewart ... 26 carries for 120 yds, 1 rec. 15 yds
RB Rodney Anderson ... 10 carries for 53 yds, 1 TD
WR Cyril Quiroz ...10 rec. 208 yds, 1 TD
Next up the Sooners hitch up the wagons and travel across country to Oregon to take on the Ducks who are 1-1 on the season.
