2018 Season Gm 11... OU 39 vs Kansas 32There are precisely 3600 seconds allotted for a sanctioned regulation NCAA football game.... and it took every last one of them for the Oklahoma Sooners to get the win over Kansas last night at a chilly Memorial Stadium in Lawrence Kansas.
The Jayhawks had fought back from an 11 point deficit with 2 TD's in the 4th qtr. to take the lead 32-31 with 3:49 left in the game.
OU started their ensuing drive on their own 25 yd line, needing at least 40 yds to give
K Austin Siebert a shot to win the game. But after 8 plays could only get as close as the KU 39...and the 58 yd try by
Siebert fell a foot short.
The missed FG gave the Jayhawks the ball at their 46 yd line with 1:28 left in the game. OU had all 3 timeouts left so they needed a 3 and out BAD...
After 3 run plays by KU and 3 TO's by OU... Kansas punted the ball to the OU 5 yd line... So with 1:08 left in the game, and no timeouts...OU needed 55 or 60 yds for a shot at a FG or 95 yds for a TD...in other words OU needed a miracle...
And on top of that
QB Austin Kendall jammed a finger on a helmet and backup
QB Andrew Weir had to come in cold and try to make something happen...
He made something happen....watch the last 1:08
https://ncaa-football.myfootballnow.com/watch/527#98984We asked OU coach
Lincoln Riley how it felt to win a game like that....
"Oh man..I don't know what to say...that was un@#$%ing real." "Kansas played their guts out...they're a lot better team than their record. It's a **** shame to have to lose a game that way."
"But I can't say enough how proud I am of these guys on this OU team...their ain't no quit in them."Next up.... a Salute To Service vs Army Black Knights
Sooners to Salute Military, Seniors on Saturday
Military Salute vs. Army Black KnightsThe University of Oklahoma will honor the many contributions and sacrifices made by former and active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families throughout Saturday’s game vs. ARMY. In addition to special recognitions throughout the game, SoonerVision will also honor Oklahoma’s military personnel serving around the world.
Also, the flag of the United States will be proudly displayed on all locations at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium where OU school colors are customarily flown.
All military personnel, past and present, will be recognized on Saturday, but there is always a special place in the hearts of OU football fans for Bob Kalsu. Kalsu earned All-America honors in 1967 as an offensive tackle while helping the Sooners to a Big 8 Championship.
Kalsu was selected in the eighth round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in 1968, but his professional career was cut short. Kalsu was called to join the U.S. Army's highly decorated 101st Airborne Division. On July 21, 1970, he was killed by North Vietnamese mortar fire. He was the only pro football player to be killed during the Vietnam Conflict.
