Re: Boomer Sooner

The Oklahoma Sooners left Louisiana 3 weeks ago in great spirits...fresh off an upset of LSU and looking forward to a 3 game home stand where they have been tough to beat in the past, the Sooners were looking to make their case for the BCS bowl sweepstakes.

But so far, the first 2 games of that home stand have been a disaster... Arkansas whooped the Sooners, and then Notre Dame embarrassed them...leaving OU sitting at 4-4 on the season and falling deservedly so, off the BCS radar.

The OU offense looked pathetic Friday night, and the normally solid Sooner defense has gone missing... allowing 85 points in the last 2 games.
Oklahoma will need to right the ship in a hurry if they are to have any hope at all of getting a playoff spot...it may in fact already be too late.

Offensively the Sooners only managed 118 total yds and that was all passing...ZERO yds on 9 carries... that stat prompted a visit after the game from Director of football operations Big Poppa...and he was overheard telling head coach Lincoln Riley to "Get it fixed, or he would"
BP was clearly upset with the play calling in this game.

QB Austin Kendall was 14/43 with 8 sacks and 5 INT's, including 2 safeties in the contest and the OU offense could only manage 3 of 13 on 3rd down. Notre Dame had a 15 min. advantage in time of possession.

Defensively the Sooners couldn't stop the ND running game. RB Dexter Williams had 87 yds and 3 TD's in the contest. ND QB Brandon Wimbush was 14/30 for 255 yds and 1 TD..

2018 Season Gm 9... OU 28 - BAMA 9

The Sooners at least got the wheels put back on the schooner this week and salvaged 1 win out of the recent 3 game home stint with a win over the Crimson Tide of Alabama.. 28 - 9.

QB Austin Kendall who overcame 2 early INT's including 1 on the very first play of the very first possession of the game for OU, ended up with a decent night going 16/26 and 320 yds and 2 TD's.

OU's running back by committee was lead by WR Marquis Brown who had 81 yds on 23 carries.
WR Abdul Adams was the leading receiver with 126 yds and 5 receptions

Defensively the Sooners have been minus 4 starters for the previous 2 games got one of them back in this one as DE William Banuelos returned still nursing a sore ankle. Banuelos had 2 tackles and 1 sack in limited action.
WLB Caleb Kelly who has moved to MLB while MLB Levi Draper has been out has done a good job and had 6 tackles with 2 sacks and an INT in this one.

2018 Season Gm 11... OU 39 vs Kansas 32

There are precisely 3600 seconds allotted for a sanctioned regulation NCAA football game.... and it took every last one of them for the Oklahoma Sooners to get the win over Kansas last night at a chilly Memorial Stadium in Lawrence Kansas.

The Jayhawks had fought back from an 11 point deficit with 2 TD's in the 4th qtr. to take the lead 32-31 with 3:49 left in the game.
OU started their ensuing drive on their own 25 yd line, needing at least 40 yds to give K Austin Siebert a shot to win the game. But after 8 plays could only get as close as the KU 39...and the 58 yd try by Siebert fell a foot short.

The missed FG gave the Jayhawks the ball at their 46 yd line with 1:28 left in the game. OU had all 3 timeouts left so they needed a 3 and out BAD...
After 3 run plays by KU and 3 TO's by OU... Kansas punted the ball to the OU 5 yd line... So with 1:08 left in the game, and no timeouts...OU needed 55 or 60 yds for a shot at a FG or 95 yds for a TD...in other words OU needed a miracle...
And on top of that QB Austin Kendall jammed a finger on a helmet and backup QB Andrew Weir had to come in cold and try to make something happen...
He made something happen....watch the last 1:08

We asked OU coach Lincoln Riley how it felt to win a game like that.... "Oh man..I don't know what to say...that was un@#$%ing real." "Kansas played their guts out...they're a lot better team than their record. It's a **** shame to have to lose a game that way."
"But I can't say enough how proud I am of these guys on this OU team...their ain't no quit in them."

Next up.... a Salute To Service vs Army Black Knights

Sooners to Salute Military, Seniors on Saturday

Military Salute vs. Army Black Knights

The University of Oklahoma will honor the many contributions and sacrifices made by former and active-duty military personnel, veterans and their families throughout Saturday’s game vs. ARMY. In addition to special recognitions throughout the game, SoonerVision will also honor Oklahoma’s military personnel serving around the world.

Also, the flag of the United States will be proudly displayed on all locations at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium where OU school colors are customarily flown.

All military personnel, past and present, will be recognized on Saturday, but there is always a special place in the hearts of OU football fans for Bob Kalsu. Kalsu earned All-America honors in 1967 as an offensive tackle while helping the Sooners to a Big 8 Championship.

Kalsu was selected in the eighth round of the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills in 1968, but his professional career was cut short. Kalsu was called to join the U.S. Army's highly decorated 101st Airborne Division. On July 21, 1970, he was killed by North Vietnamese mortar fire. He was the only pro football player to be killed during the Vietnam Conflict.
