2017 Allocation Draft

The draft didn't quite fall exactly how the Irish were planning but they were able to add three 5 star recruits as well as a 4 star QB. The staff is excited about the prospects on defense starting with two sure fire stars Julian Love and Nyles Morgan. Both athletes were ranked in the top 50 in highschool last season. The team decided to take all true freshman except the QB who is a second year Frosh. While Wimbush isn't the most agile QB he has all the passing tools to be successful in the Irish's high octane offense. With their final pick of the first day the team took a chance on a very volatile defender Jalen Elliott. While Elliott possesses all the physical tools to be great he must learn technique to really be a star. The team is going to use him as a rover safety/linebacker to take full advantage of his talents. The team is excited about the young talent they have acquired on the first day of the draft.

Scrimmage Game 1

Notre Dame-.31, Kansas-20

Game Summary: Not a very impressive showing for the young Fighting Irish. The offense had trouble moving the ball through the air and the defense was far from stout. The second half saw the backups play significantly better and showing how balanced the roster is. QB David Allen threw for 3 TD's and led the team to a comeback victory. With many position changes on the squad it's going to take a bit for many of the players to adjust to their new spots. In the mean time the Irish have just one more scrimmage before the real games begin. The Florida Gators travel to South Bend this week in what should be a good test for the Golden Domers.

Off Player of the game- QB David Allen 11/15, 199 yds. 3 TD, 0 Int 154.9 Rtg
Def Player of the game- DT Jerry Tillery 2 tck, 1 sack

Scrimmage Game 2

Notre Dame-30, Florida-13

Game Summary: It was much better effort from the Irish in their first scrimmage at home. The offense was well balanced and RS freshman QB Brandon Wimbush connected for three TD's in the first half before taking the clipboard. The defense was stout only allowing one td. While backup RB Dexter Williams continued to shine running the ball he lost two crucial fumbles that have the staff worried going into the season. Also young kicker Justin Yoon missed two chippers that caused some concern for Notre Dame fans.

Off Player of the game- QB-Brandon Wimbush 7/12, 179 yds, 3 TD, 0 Int, 142.4 Rtg
Def Player of the game- DT-Jonathan Bonner 4 tck, 2 sacks

Scrimmage Game 3

Notre Dame-30, Oklahoma-20

Game Summary: The Irish traveled to Norman, Oklahoma and notched their third straight scrimmage victory. The starters played three quarters for both teams and the staff from Notre Dame felt good about the outcome. The running game was held in check by a very aggressive Sooner defense and the result was RS freshman Brandon Wimbush amassing 377 yards and 2 TD's. The offensive line was horrible and is showing their youth. TE Brock Wright got the start tonight and showed why the staff is so excited about the youngster. He caught 4 passes for 106 yards. The Irish defense played well only allowing 10 points in their 3 quarters. The fourth quarter saw the backups run repeatedly into a wall on offense. With just one scrimmage left the Irish will try to get one last look at the second and third teamers before they make their final roster decisions.

Off Player of the game- WR-Quincy Brown 7 rec, 169 yards, 1 TD
Def Player of the game- DT-Jonathan Bonner 4 tck, 2 sacks

Scrimmage Game 4

Notre Dame-23, Oklahoma St.-20 (OT)

Game Summary: The Irish completed a late 4th quarter comeback to force overtime and get the win against Oklahoma St. The Irish only played a handful of starters for one quarter and gave way to the backups. Once again the Irish quarterbacks faced an onslought of pressure and continue to struggle in pass protection. The staff is concerned about the unit and the health of young QB Brandon Wimbush if he takes too many hits. The defense was solid for most of the game and the great number of player position switches is starting to become fruitful. The scrimmages are now complete and the Irish gear up for their home opener against UC Berkeley. Many roster decisions will be made in the next day or so.

Off Player of the game- QB-David Allen 18/44, 414 yards, 2 TD, 1 Int, 81.1 Rtg
Def Player of the game- DT-Jonathan Bonner 7 Tckl, 9 hurries, 3 sacks

Game 1

#2 Notre Dame-56, California-9

Game Summary: What a home opener the Irish gave the fans in South Bend. RS freshman Brandon Wimbush was on point, connecting with receivers for 6 TD's. Once again the pressure was felt as the Golden Bears amassed 9 sacks and were constantly in the backfield with blitz pressure. Wimbush was able to overcome the adversity and wrack up 457 yards. The defense was the story of this game wrecking Cal's freshman qb debut. 14 sacks, 5 interceptions and 4 forced fumbles are all you need to know about how incredible this young squad did. Defensive lineman Jonathan Bonner was unblock-able getting the qb 4 times. The three young core dbs Julian Love, Shaun Crawford and Jay Elliot all got interceptions and were stellar in coverage. The Irish staff are excited about getting the W and living up to the preseason hype of being the #2 ranked team in the nation but they know there is a lot of work to do in the future. "We have a young and hungry team, head coach John Nickell said. We aren't here to build for the future, we're here to win the whole **** thing now!" Next up is another home game against rival Navy Midshipmen.

Off Player of the game-____QB Brandon Wimbush (23/41, 457 yards, 6 TD, 0 Int, 134.86 Rtg)

Def Player of the game-____SS Jay Elliott (3 tckl, 10 ThrnAt, 2 KnkDn, 30% Alld %, 2 Int)

Game 2

#2 Notre Dame-36, Navy-19

Game Summary: Notre Dame welcomed historical rival Navy into South Bend in what turned out to be a slugfest. Navy was coming off a tough loss in week one to Arizona and were hoping to slow down the high flying Golden Domers. The Irish offense took to the ground this week hoping to balance out a very pass dominant week one gameplan. Led by freshman Josh Adams and his 186 yards and 2 TD's the Irish continued to move the chains despite their inconsistent tendencies. QB Brandon Wimbush tossed his first interception of the season but was still solid through the air. Notre Dame kicker Justin Yoon has been terrible missing all three of his fg attempts bringing his season total to 3/7. On defense the Irish didn't bring the pain like a week ago only bringing down Navy QB James Sherwood 3 times. They did continue to cause turnovers with 4, bringing their season total to 11 through 2 games. RS Junior corner Shaun Crawford notched two interceptions and a FF cementing his place as the NCAA Defensive Player of the Week. "It wasn't pretty, laughed Irish coach John Nickell. Anytime you play a rival division game it's going to be a challenge. Lots of respect for that team and their staff."
Notre Dame travels to Oxford Mississippi this week to take on the 0-2 Rebels.

Off Player of the game-____RB Josh Adams (22 car, 186 yards, 2 TD, 3 rec, 28 yards)

Def Player of the game-____CB Shaun Crawford (7 tckl, 9 ThrnAt, 2 KnkDn, 22% Alld %, 2 Int, 1 FF)

Game 3

Notre Dame-30, Mississippi-16

Game Summary: A very uneven game for the Irish as they traveled to Oxford, Mississippi. Wimbush was able to complete some big plays to his favorite target Quincy Brown but otherwise was very inconsistent against a predominantly blitz attack. The run game couldn't find any room and after jumping out to a 24-7 lead the Rebels mounted a comeback. Closing the gap to 8 was as close as they would get as the Irish defense made some big turnovers down the stretch. The much maligned kicker Justin Yoon missed his first fg marking his fourth straight miss but came through with three straight to help Notre Dame seal the deal. Next up is division rival Marshall who boast the same 3-0 record as the Domers in what should be one of the bigger games in the early portion of the season.

Off Player of the game-____WR Quincy Brown (10 rec, 288 yards, 2 TD)

Def Player of the game-____MLB Myles Morgan (9 tckl, 1 sck, 2 KnkDn, 1 Int)

Game 4

Notre Dame-13, Marshall-35

Game Summary: The youth of the Irish finally showed themselves this afternoon. Brandon Wimbush had one of the worst qb'ing perfomances in owner history as he couldn't hit the broadside of the barn all game. The running game was non existent and 5 fumbles, a safety, a kick return td against and 9 penalties. The defense held their own for much of the game despite the offense's inept ability to put any drives together. While the team may have to wash the taste of that one out of their mouth, they still are sitting in a good position after the first quarter of the season. Next up is their big rivalry game with Army.

Game 5

Notre Dame-37, Army-0

Game Summary: Notre Dame's homecoming saw arch rival Army come to town. Coming off their first loss of the year the Irish were hungry to get back on the field and redeem themselves. The storylines in this game were the offensive line, the entire defense and the kicking game. The offensive line got back to grinding out yards on the ground and taking some pressure off of their young QB. Wracking up over 200 yards on the ground and only allowing one attributed sack, the line was the best they've been this season. The defense was stout all game holding the Black Knights to 0/16 on third downs and only 79 passing yards. And last but not least, the much maligned kicker Justin Yoon connected on all 7 of his kicks including 3 kicks over 50 yards. It was a great way to get back in the win column and knock down a rival in the same game.

Off Player of the game-____WR Quincy Brown (7 rec, 227 yards, 2 TD)

Def Player of the game-____CB Julian Love (3 tckl, 10 ThrnAt, 20%Alld %, 2 KnkDn, 1 Int)
