2018 Scrimmage Game #1

Notre Dame-58, Florida St-30

It was a successful opening scrimmage for the reigning Conference Champions but certainly not smooth. The starting unit left after two quarters up 27-6 and despite the offense's inconsistent woes, the defense was stout and punishing. Big plays throughout the game were key into unlocking a very aggressive defense. "FSU stacked the box and really put some pressure on us, owner Bryson10 said. When you see 58 points on the board then you know that there were some big plays to be had."

The backup defense struggled mightily with the all pass Seminole offense and just looked uncomfortable on the backend. Giving up 25 second half points is going to really frustrate a staff that prides itself on defense. All in all, it's not a bad outing for the Irish but hopefully the team will continue to improve in the next one.

Scrimmage #2

Norte Dame-40, Miami-16

Not a very exciting game for the Irish despite the final score. QB Brandon Wimbush looked pedestrian and the offense is still failing to find a consistent rhythm. The defense was as advertised holding Miami to just 3 fgs until the final minute when they turned a fumble into six. Two fumbles by freshman C.J. Holmes has many staff members wondering if the young back will play as promnant role as they had hoped. Now the Irish must turn their attention towards Arizona and a tough regular season schedule.

VS

Notre Dame-26, Arizona-21

In a rematch of last year's Fiesta Bowl Notre Dame didn't coast to a victory in the season's opener. The Irish jumped out to an early 10 point lead but found it tough to manage the two headed pass attack that Arizona unleashed. The Irish offense was exactly like they've been in the two scrimmages, inconsistent. Heisman hopeful QB Brandon Wimbush only hit on 38.7% of his passes but when he did connect he was lethal. He completed a measly 12 passes in the game but was able to pile up 432 yards for an average completion of 36 yards. The Arizona defense was hungry bringing the heat over and over and sacking Wimbush 8 times. Notre Dame's dynamic wr duo of Claypool and Brown had their way over the top of the Wildcat corners. On defense the Irish weren't as dominant as usual but were still strong enough to hold their opponent on the final drive. Notre Dame had to get this win to get their season off on the right foot since they will be playing a gauntlet of top contending teams this season as they try to get back to the title game.

WR Quincy Brown (7 rec, 229 yards, 2 TD)

FS Nick Coleman (10 tckl)

1-10-ND 14 (1:08) 7-Brandon Wimbush pass complete to 16-Quincy Brown for 86 yards. TOUCHDOWN!

VS

Notre Dame-37, Cal-9

Notre Dame welcomed their second Pac-12 team into South Bend in two weeks. After already knocking off Arizona in week one, the defending North Division champs California came to town. The Irish found a little more balance on offense despite allowing a whopping 9 sacks. Cal's aggressive defense got pressure but still couldn't stop the dynamic Notre Dame attack. QB Brandon Wimbush threw 3 more TD's giving him 6 in the first two games. The story of this game was the Irish defense. Only allowing 120 total yards, they surrendered only 7 points and that was due to a turnover leaving the opponent with a short field. While the Irish aren't wracking up the sacks this season they are taking advantage of their deep secondary to really **** the life out of the opponent's passing game. Arch rival Army will come to town for homecoming week, pitting two teams that have yet to lose and can't stand one another.

QB Brandon Wimbush (24/41 58.5%, 345 Yards, 3 TD. 1 Int, 100.15 Rating)

DT Eugene Redus (3 Tckl, 2 Sacks, 6 Hurries)

2-8-CAL 17 (8:56) 7-Brandon Wimbush pass complete to 89-Brock Wright for 17 yards. TOUCHDOWN!

VS

#2 Notre Dame-31, #7 Army-12

Throw out the stats when Army comes to town! Two top 10 teams faced off in one of college's most storied rivalries. Army came out firing in the first half moving the ball relatively easy but were not able to maximize their opportunities. The play that broke the game open was a 103 yard kickoff return by RB Dexter Williams. The Irish offense wasn't overpowering but they moved the ball consistently throughout the game and were able to put points on the board. The defense surrendered an early TD but then only allowed a fg in the second quarter. They pitched a shutout in the second half and really put the clamps down on the Army passing attack. The offensive line only allowed one attributed sack and showed dramatic improvement against and aggressive Black Knight defense. Notre Dame takes a 2 games to 1 edge over Army in the series but will travel to Michie Stadium in three weeks for the rematch.

QB Brandon Wimbush 19/34 51.9%, 345 Yards, 3 TD. 1 Int, 103.9 Rating)

CB Nick Watkins (4 Tckl, 7 ThrownAt, 2 KnockDowns, 28.6 Catch%, 1 Int)

(12:12) 4-Carl Lopp kicks 68 yards from ARM 35 to ND -3. 2-Dexter Williams for 103yards. TOUCHDOWN!

#2 Notre Dame-58, #18 Kansas-3

Starting off the 2018 season with three straight home games the Fighting Irish hit the road for Lawrence Kansas in week 4. The 18th ranked Jayhawks weren't up for the challenge. Notre Dame jumped out to a quick 14 point lead and never looked back on their way to a 58-3 demolition. QB Brandon Wimbush took home his third straight Offensive player of the game with a heisman-like effort. He amassed over 400 yards and 5 TD's without turning it over. WR duo Quincy Brown and Chase Claypool were unstoppable on the outside and proved the difference. Not to be outdown was the great Irish defense that wracked up 8 sacks, 2 interceptions and two forced fumbles. It was one of the best all around efforts for the Irish team in two years as they looked strong in all areas. Next up is going to be another tough road test as Notre Dame travels to the Shoe to face Ohio St.

QB Brandon Wimbush 18/33 54.5%, 411 Yards, 5 TD. 0 Int, 115.36 Rating)

SS Jay Elliott (6 Tckl, 1 Sack, 2 Hurries, 4 ThrownAt, 1 KnockDowns, 25 Catch%, 1 Int)

2-9-ND 36 (3:43) 12-David Baker sacked at ND 45 for -9 yards (5-Myles Morgan) 12-David Baker FUMBLES (5-Myles Morgan) recovered by ND-9-Dalton Hayes for 53 yards. TOUCHDOWN!

#2 Notre Dame-13, #11 Ohio St.-28

It was eerily similar to all the losses in Notre Dame's past, the Irish offense failed to find rhythm and turned the ball over too many times. Left tackle Mike McGlinchey was awful allowing 5 sacks and getting overmatched throughout the game. The Buckeyes employed an all out blitz attack that the Irish have had success against in the past but couldn't get it going in this one. No matter how good Notre Dame play this year there's always games like this one that will hurt their chances at becoming the powerhouse they envision. Next up they travel to West Point for the rematch with division rival Army. Notre Dame will need to really pick it up if they hope to escape with a win.

#3 Notre Dame-19, #6 Army-13

Two of the nation's top teams met for the second time in three weeks. In the previous meeting the home team Irish won convincingly led by the arm of QB Brandon Wimbush. The Irish offense has struggled lately and is turning the ball over at a record clip. Notre Dame turned the ball over 5 times in this thriller and are lucky to get out of West Point with the W. The defense was spectacular sacking the Black Knight's QB Chris Carter 9 times and picking him off twice. After a tough three game road stretch the Irish return home to face another pressure defensive team in Texas. "If we want to get where we want to go we must take care of the ball better, coach John Nickell said. We must improve on offense quickly."

WR Chase Claypool (5 rec, 113 yards, 0 TD)

SLB David Adams (4 Tckl, 1 Sack, 1 FRec, 1 TD)

1-10-ARM 25 (5:40) 2-Chris Carter sacked at ARM 17 for -8 yards (21-Jay Elliott) 2-Chris Carter FUMBLES (21-Jay Elliott) recovered by ND-35-David Adams for 15 yards. TOUCHDOWN!
