Game 16

Notre Dame-40, LSU-14

Game Summary: It was a bitter sweet victory for the Irish this week as they traveled to Baton Rouge and put the beat down on the home team. Despite a great showing by Wimbush and the wide receivers the story of this game is the loss of star RB Josh Adams. Adams broke his ankle and will miss the remainder of the season. It's a tough blow for the #3 offense in the country. The defense gave up a few td drives in the first half but were able to clamp down in the second and completely shut down the Tiger offense. Top recruit Julian Love intercepted his 11th pass to give him the sole lead for interceptions in the NCAA.

Off Player of the game-____QB Brandon Wimbush (24/50, 470 yards, 3 TD, 1 Int, 92.9 Rtg)

Def Player of the game-____WLB Martin Greer (14 tckl, 2 Hurries, 2 Sacks)

SOUTH BEND- Head coach John Nickell anounced the three captains that were voted on by the players. QB Brandon Wimbush, RT Mike McGlinchey and SS Jalen Elliott were named after the conclusion of today's practice. Congrats!

Bowl Week 2

Notre Dame-37, Arizona-16

Game Summary: It's not easy coming into South Bend and getting a win and the Irish proved that once again winning their 9th straight home game. A fast start by Notre Dame allowed the home team to jump out to a 31-3 lead but Arizona never stopped battling. Cutting the lead in half in the second half was as close as they would get as the Irish defense was spectacular. Led by the dynamic set of cover men Julian Love and Shawn Crawford, the Irish made it incredibly hard for Heisman candidate Joseph Dimond. Each corners had interceptions that led to TD's and completely changed the momentum. While Arizona did a nice job limiting star DE Dalton Hayes on the day, it was his partner in crime Andrew Trumbley that picked up the slack. He gathered 4 sacks and proved to be too much to handle for the Wildcats line. "This is a huge win for our young players, owner Bryson10 said. Arizona is one of the best teams in the NCAA so it feels good to get a win of this magnitude."

Next up is #2 UCLA whom many feel is the favorite to win it all. Notre Dame will have to travel to the West Coast and try to find a way to slow down the league's most prolific offense.

Off Player of the game-____WR Chris Sanders (7 Rec, 97 Yards, 1 TD)

Def Player of the game-____DE Andrew Trumbley (4 Tckl, 1 Hurries, 4 Sacks)

Bowl Week 3

Notre Dame-23, UCLA-10

Game Summary: For the second week in a row the Fighting Irish faced off with a Pac-12 powerhouse. UCLA was the flashy offense from the west coast that boasted two heisman candidates and a vaunted offense that was setting records from day one. The Irish defense stood up and punched them in the mouth limiting RB Bobbie Warfield to just 49 yards rushing and QB Robert Beall to only 159 yards passing and 1 TD. They were able to pick of Beall twice and force a costly sack fumble deep in UCLA territory. The story of this game was both defenses were doing work continually getting pressure and getting stops. Backup RB Dexter Williams was impressive with 81 yards rushing and 114 yards receiving while adding 2 scores. The offensive line and special teams really struggled as Wimbush was sacked 7 times and kicker Justin Yoon missed two kicks. Getting wins in the Fiesta Bowl and the Rose Bowl have exceeded all expectations the Irish have had but that doesn't mean they don't want to get the title. "Our biggest test is next, said coach John Nickell. Tennessee has been the top team for almost the whole season and they have been destroying teams along the way. We will have to play our best to be able to compete."

The Irish have an extra week to prepare for the title game but it won't be enough for the team's star MLB Myles Morgan to make it back from an ugly ankle injury this week. Starting RB Josh Adams has a shot at returning if he can show the staff that he is ready during practice.

Off Player of the game-____RB Dexter Williams (15 Rushes, 81 Yards, 1 TD, 5 Rec, 114 Yards, 1 TD)

Def Player of the game-____DE Andrew Trumbley (2 Tckl, 5 Hurries, 3 Sacks, 1 FF, 1 FRec)

National Title

Notre Dame-13, Tennessee-28

Game Summary: It was reminiscent of Notre Dame's previous two losses this season, the offense couldn't move the ball at all. Three interceptions and absolutely no consistency in the passing game led to a miserable offensive performance. The defense held up and kept the Irish in the game for most of it but got tired at the end and failed to hold Tennessee late. It was a great season for this young team that has many flaws and things to improve on. While the team is going to dwell on this opportunity missed, it's been a successful first year for a team that many didn't think had a chance. Time to move on and concentrate all efforts on recruiting to build the team for next year.

2018 Graduate Transfers

One of the most heated recruiting battles of the offseason saw the 5 star defensive tackle from Mississippi choose to play in South Bend. He immediately brings a much needed veteran presence to the group and is equally adept at run defense as he is to rushing the quarterback. Redus is a huge addition to one of the best young defenses in the NCAA.

Terry Sears was used sparingly in Tuscaloosa a season ago and barring an injury is going to be used in a similar manner at Notre Dame. While he's not the most talented quarterback, he has experience and knowledge that will be a welcomed addition to help mentor the young and talented starter Brandon Wimbush.

Round 1

Notre Dame's defense was top 5 a season ago yet it didn't stop them from adding a top notch transfer as well as a dynamic linebacker. New Jersey's Shane Simon is a heavily recruited talent that excels in covering space. He can play sideline to sideline and shows great spacial awareness in zone coverage. Strong and fast, Simon is always in the right place at the right time. He will need to improve his tackling and his man coverage to become an elite player but his skill set will fit in perfectly with the Irish's style. "We're excited to get Shane's signature, owner Bryson10 said. He was a player we put high on our wish list so it's always nice to seal the deal."
